These Biological Sisters Are Proof That Genetics Do Crazy — and Beautiful — Things

Willimina and Valentina aren't step siblings, half sisters, or adopted. These beautiful little girls are biological siblings who happen to have different skin tones, but to Willimina, the only difference between them is baby Valentina's chubby cheeks.

When Willimina was first born, everyone said that she looked just like her dad, so when her parents learned that they were expecting Valentina a few years later, her mom joked that it was her turn to have a little twin. "Never in a million years would I have guessed she would be born with fair skin, auburn hair, blue eyes, and truly my mini me," the girls' mom shared on the Love What Matters Facebook page.

Although some struggle to believe that they are related, let alone share the same parents, the girls' mom and dad aren't worried about how others perceive their family. Instead, they are focused on the biggest gift they've ever been given: the chance to watch their girls interact and grow up together.

"Do I worry about them growing up in this crazy world with 'different skin colors?' No, not at all. My husband and I will raise them no differently, treat them no differently, and, most importantly, love them no differently. Kids are colorblind and love is every color of the rainbow. Genetics do crazy things and skin color doesn't matter in the eyes of children. Love is love!"
