5 Moments in Selena Gomez's "Boyfriend" Video That Remind Us of The Weeknd's "Heartless"

Selena Gomez is on a roll this week! After dropping three new songs on the deluxe edition of her Rare album, the 27-year-old released the music video for "Boyfriend" on Friday. Aside from the fact that it immediately took us back to her Wizards of Waverly Place days, it also reminded us a lot of The Weeknd's "Heartless" video. Coincidence?

Gomez and The Weeknd famously dated for seven months in 2017. Earlier this week, she debuted a song called "Souvenir," which seems to have The Weeknd written all over it. The Red and Black Color Schemes

Both Gomez and The Weeknd's videos start off with the titles of their songs (as most do), but it's hard not to notice the red and black color schemes all throughout, including their matching red outfits.

The Classic Convertibles

In The Weeknd's "Heartless," the storyline begins with him hopping out of a black convertible in Vegas at night while wearing sunglasses. Meanwhile, in Gomez's "Boyfriend," the singer is also shown driving a classic convertible at night . . . while wearing sunglasses. Hmm . . .

The Gambling Scenes

In "Heartless," The Weeknd tries his luck at craps at a Vegas casino, and in "Boyfriend," Gomez walks in on her friends playing cards in the back of a dry cleaners.

The Toads Insert Eyes Emoji Here

This is probably the biggest similarity between the two videos. Both videos prominently feature toads, which are known for having hallucinogenic effects.

The Trippy Hand Scenes

Hence the scenes in both videos where The Weeknd and one of Gomez's dates see themselves turning into amphibians.
