A Brilliant, Affordable Standing Desk Solution

Why sit when you can stand? This portable, affordable standing desk idea is just brilliant; we can't believe it took this long. The UpStanding Desk ($225) is a successfully funded Kickstarter campaign (as of yesterday — congrats, guys!) that can transform any desk or table into a standing desk.

Sitting for long periods of time can shave years off your life. We're at our desks for eight hours a day — and probably binging on Netflix for much longer. The easy solution is a standing desk, which can cost upward of $600 or $700.

But Mikey Chen and Sam Carmichael, MFA students at the School of Visual Arts, have come up with an ingenious product: a fully adjustable, device-friendly desk accessory that doesn't cost a fortune.

The tabletop desk has a level for a keyboard, mouse, or laptop, and the upper level is designed for an external monitor. Each shelf can be independently adjusted in one-inch increments, so the UpStanding Desk can be tailored to any height. There's a back groove to hold mobile devices upright and cable slots to keep wires tucked away as well.

Backers will receive their UpStanding Desk later this Summer. The Kickstarter funding round has closed — but it'll be ready for preorder soon! Sign up for updates at signup.theupstandingdesk.com.
