Katherine Heigl stepped out for lunch this weekend with Josh Kelley and a few members of her family. Seems that her outing was more exciting than this week's episode of Grey's Anatomy, which was pretty blah. We're starting to feel like the show is losing its charms but what do you think — is Grey's going downhill?

Animal lover Katherine Heigl and her mom stopped by the Villalobos Rescue Center in LA on Sunday. She admirably brought photographers along to document the creatures' situations, but Katherine is mostly getting praised for her work these days. Both her film 27 Dresses and her recently controversial show Grey's Anatomy were just nominated for People's Choice Awards — Buzz has the whole list of this year's honorees. Her husband Josh won't let her adopt any more pets, but he'd probably be happy to clear space on their mantle for another one of Katherine's accolades.

There's the ghost of Izzie's relationship with Denny, possibly preparing to start haunting all of Seattle Grace as well. There's the ghost of Denny himself, not letting Izzie go. There's the ghost of Meredith's mother, still present in those journals.

Guess she's not giving up that habit anytime soon, and Thursday night her character Izzie also could have used a stress reliever on Grey's Anatomy. Izzie did manage to make some progress in her relationship with Alex, and it sounds like many of you are rooting for this on-screen couple — even if her love affair with Denny comes into play next week.

The Cast of Grey's Slip Back Into Their Scrubs

The doctors of Seattle Grace were back to their familiar blue attire to shoot a few scenes for Grey's Anatomy in LA yesterday. Eric Dane and Patrick Dempsey goofed around outside on the patio, though McDreamy didn't seem all that impressed with McSteamy's bulging biceps. The atmosphere must be a lot lighter for Katherine Heigl now, too, since she doesn't have to worry about her character getting killed off by a brain tumor. Now that next season's plot is back to being a mystery, we're even more excited for the Fall to get started.

Katherine and TR Explore The Americana's Anatomy

Real life BFFs Katherine Heigl and TR Knight took a break from work as George and a possibly dying Izzie for a shopping trip at The Americana in Glendale yesterday. These days, Grey's isn't the only thing on Katherine's plate — among other projects she is producing and starring in the polygamist movie Escape. She recently opened up about her own Mormon upbringing while talking about her life. Here are some highlights:

On being Mormon: "[I'm not a] strong, practicing Mormon. I'm not as disciplined about it as I once was, but I hope to find my way back as I get older and a little less selfish. I'm ashamed to say that I've just got very lazy about it. I satisfy my vices instead of fighting them. If I start going back to church, I'd have to stop the smoking and drinking, and I wouldn't be able to curse any more."
On her family becoming Mormon after her brother's death: "It changed everything for all of us. Everybody suffered in different ways. It really screwed up everything, and it took a long time for us to be able to function as a family again without him."
On fame: "Before, my worries were, 'Am I ever going to work again?' and, 'Can I pay the mortgage this month?' There were so many lean years. A lot of lean years. The success is great. It gives me much more freedom."

We mentioned that Katherine pulled her name out of the Emmy running when she said, "I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention. In addition, I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials." Sounds a little like she's scorning her own writers' material, but maybe she just felt undeserving. What do you think of her move — gracious or arrogant?
