Diddy Turns 39 With Friends and a Special Gift From the US

Diddy's 39th birthday party at Mansion in New York last night was packed with his famous friends, and the celebration was doubly sweet after Barack Obama's Tuesday night win. The bday boy himself waved a patriotic American flag before mugging for the cameras with his buddy Jay-Z. While Beyonce found time to express her post-election patriotism, she'll be performing at the Europe MTV Awards tonight so the party was a no go. Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor stopped by after the Michael J. Fox benefit looking every bit the perfect team. Rebecca Gayheart hammed it up with Jack McBrayer, which reminds me that Oprah is on 30 Rock tonight! It should be almost as much fun as Diddy's fancy soiree.

Beyonce Knowles joined Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, and Diddy at a "Promote the Vote" rally for Barack Obama in Philadelphia yesterday. Jay-Z and Diddy have been campaigning for the last few days in key toss-up states, and Diddy took the opportunity to open up about how important this election is to him. He said, "It's a new day right now and my son is in fourth grade, and when they ask him what he wants to be, now he can say he wants to be president of the United States. That's all because of Barack Obama." Beyonce later added, "Everyone is excited and it's time. I feel like we have grown so much as a nation and we will continue to grow because of Mr. Obama." No matter who you're casting your ballot for, all eyes will be on the news as the day unfolds.

It wasn't all about Halloween this weekend; across the country rallies were being held to get out the word in the final days before tomorrow's election. On Saturday, Scarlett Johansson hit Ohio to show her support for Barack Obama and get out the vote, while her husband Ryan Reynolds got ready to run the NY marathon yesterday with her support from afar. Jay-Z spoke at rallies on both Saturday in Virginia and Sunday in Florida about how honored he is to be able to participate in the campaign, saying, "Obama's running so we all can fly." After this long campaign season, I can't believe tomorrow is so close — we hope you're all ready to get out and vote!

Jay-Z walked arm in arm with his work and play partner Beyonce Knowles as they left Cipriani's and headed to Diddy's L'Uomo Vogue cover party at 1OAK in NYC last night. Name-changing Diddy may have given Beyonce some inspiration for her upcoming double album, half of which she recorded under her pseudonym, Sasha Fierce. She said, "I have someone else that takes over when it's time for me to work and when I'm on stage, this alter ego that I've created that kind of protects me and who I really am." This isn't the first we've heard of Sasha, but Beyonce seems to be embracing "the fun, more sensual, more aggressive, more outspoken side and more glamorous side" more than ever. While Beyonce seems plenty glamorous herself, it'll be fun to see how the two halves of the double album line up with her dual personas.

Jay-Z left the Spirit Awards to kick off his tour at the re-opening of the Hollywood Palladium last night. As expected, DJ AM was right there to help work those turntables for his second appearance since the plane crash — which he recently opened up about in an interview and said he "jumped through a fireball" to get out of the burning plane. While the celebrity attendees like Ellen Pompeo and Hayden Panettiere may have missed watching the debate last night, Jay-Z still took the opportunity to talk politics a bit on stage. Between his welcome home party and having lots of friends around to keep company, it looks like DJ AM is happy to be back at work after the tragedy.

DJ AM Is Ready to Return to the Stage With Jay-Z

Jay-Z flashed a big smile as he left Katsuya last night after arriving at LAX. He spent the weekend in London to promote the New Jersey Nets, but apparently Jay's services are too steep these days. He couldn't score a gig at any clubs due to his high appearance fee, even after he lowered his asking price. Even if he's not getting any love overseas, Jay kicks off a stateside tour tomorrow at the Hollywood Palladium and he'll be joined by a very special guest. DJ AM will return to the stage for the first time since his plane crash, and from there will join Jay-Z for some of the dates on the tour.

Beyonce's trip to Miami wasn't all bikini time with her sister; Jay-Z met up with his wife in Florida, and the two separately headlined events this weekend. Beyonce looked glamorous on Saturday night as she was recognized for her philanthropy and inducted into the International Pediatric Hall of Fame at the Miami Children's Hospital Foundation Diamond Ball. The singer had lunch with her man on South Beach Sunday morning before Jay-Z took the stage. He performed with Wyclef at the free Last Chance For Change rally and concert in support of Barack Obama and urging voters to register, which he also did in Michigan on Saturday. As usual with these two, there was of course time to hit the pool between getting out there and doing good.

Jay-Z Wears Medals and Talks Babies

Jay-Z tried on one of the only kinds of bling he can't buy — Olympic gold medals — at the 2008 Global Leadership Awards Gala in NYC last night. The three first place medals belonged to swimmer Ryan Lochte who we're so used to seeing without a shirt that the suit makes him hard to recognize. Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones joined the boys on the red carpet. Jay-Z was among the honorees last night and he talked about his recent trips to Africa being reward enough but also opened up a little bit about wanting a family saying, "Most people I guess dream of having a family some day, so I'm just a regular American boy." Before we get to see little J or B, he'll be hopping on a plane and heading to the Midwest soon to perform a free concert this Saturday in Michigan at a voter registration event offered by Barack Obama.

The stars of the Big Apple came out to show their philanthropic sides last night at the 9th Annual New Yorkers for Children Fall Gala at Cipriani 42nd Street in Manhattan. The gala raised money to benefit children in NYC foster care and also honored music executive Kevin Liles for his charitable work. Beyonce and Jay-Z mingled with guests and laughed while Jimmy Fallon took the stage. Blake Lively brought her sister Lori as her date and matched fellow Gossiper Taylor Momsen in purple, black, and gold. Robert Buckley, still handsome despite not his best hair, joined Kim Raver to represent Lipstick Jungle, which premieres online today.

Beyonce's big smile will come in handy while she gets back on stage on Sept. 5 for her Stand Up to Cancer performance. Meanwhile we can settle for cute pics and hearing her voice joining with other superstars on the new "Just Stand Up" single as well as her sister Solange's album now on iTunes. Beyonce and Jay's friend Kanye is expected to make an appearance at the DNC in Denver this week, and even if this couple aren't making the trip, we know which candidate will be getting their support come November.

Beyonce stopped by City Hall Park in NYC yesterday for J&R's MusicFest concert series, but she wasn't there to take the stage. Instead, she was out and looking happy to play fan for a change watching performances from sister Solange and Destiny's Child's Michelle Williams. While it's been a bit since we've had a new Beyonce single to sing along with, you can check out her Stand Up to Cancer collaboration track, "Just Stand Up," with all the rest of those fabulous women after the jump. Jay-Z got all fancied up in a suit and tie yesterday to help NYC Mayor Bloomberg announce that Park Avenue will be closed to cars for a few hours on the next three Saturdays in Manhattan. Maybe Jay will take advantage of the special opportunity and have a romantic stroll with Beyonce this weekend — but don't expect him to gush about it afterwards. He recently talked to Vibe magazine about why he doesn't want to open up about his supposed wedding to Beyonce, saying, "I just think it's really a part of your life that you gotta keep to yourself. You have to have something sacred to you and the people around you. I shared so much of my life… I should have something to hold on to." Even if we never get to hear all the details about their wedding, for now we'll settle for seeing the couple happily sporting their rings.

Jay-Z smiled as he made his way through some adoring fans on his way out of Maddox Club in London last night. Whether or not his kick-ass Glastonbury performance helped him gain popularity, it looks like the NY born and bred rapper has more than a few loyal followers overseas. He seemed to have a blast inside partying with Pharrell, which all must have only been made that much sweeter by the news that "99 Problems" is back on the UK charts after his show over the weekend.
