American Idol Davids Face Off

Last night on American Idol, Simon declared David Archuleta the winner of the night by a knockout. Archuleta sang his heart out and it showed, but we're still hoping for a David Cook victory.

The judges were enthusiastic throughout the night with comments like "best performance so far," "flawless," "stunning," "phenomenal," and "that was hot baby!" The Clive Davis song choices were my favorite. The show ended with Archuleta singing "Imagine" (actually a prediction Molly made earlier). Cook tried something different and although it may have cost him the crown, he did get a wink from Simon — that and a really humbling, nice comment about what a great guy he is.

We all know it doesn't matter who wins at this point. They will both do something exciting from here and in five years, we will be remembering one of them, but the question is which one? American Idol — It's Down to the Final 3

Last night on American Idol the contestants sang three songs each and considering the talent seemed so promising when the season kicked off, I'm left wondering why I barely care about who is left standing.

The judges praised the two Davids who will most likely duke it out next week but Syesha looked hot and sang very well. Too bad the judges basically wrote her off last night but she should be happy, she had a good run.

David Archuleta still has a great voice, but really, is this teenager going to be the next idol? Especially one that is laughable while singing Chris Brown. Simon calling him a "Chihuahua trying to be a tiger" was pretty hilarious.

David Cook was Simon's favorite and he declared him the winner of the night. At least he admitted to being a little biased since he chose his first round song and declared "Cowell and Cook" the winners. So Simon of him. The producers clearly want Cook to win too since the final song of the night was by far the best and of course their decision. American Idol Rocks and Rolls

Down to the final four, and it seems pretty obvious who is being booted tonight. Last night Jason Castro really screwed things up. As if attempting Bob Marley weren't bad enough (even though we know it's his thing) but forgetting the words . . . again. I could understand if it was Broadway week or something, but it was a Bob Dylan song, so he should have nailed it. At least he remained strong while taking the wrath from the judges, which included Simon's tip to pack his bags (ouch). At this point I think he wants to go home.

David Cook picked two great songs, but I expected a greater performance from him. The judges liked his second performance more, but it was still not as exciting as his competition.

Syesha stepped it up again this week. I definitely did not think she was going to be the last girl standing, and the drama last night was fabulous for the final four. Her first song Simon said was bad karaoke, but the second song he loved and agreed with Paula's glowing review. Syesha is clearly more confident performing each week, and this is the best time to show major improvements like she has done.

David Archuleta was loved by the judges once again, for his renditions of "Stand By Me" and "Love Me Tender." Great songs and amazing voice. He doesn't need to win — at this point he will probably outsell this year's contestants since his voice is so perfect to record, but I so can't imagine him as the next American Idol.

American Idol Hello Again, Neil Diamond!

Neil Diamond! This had to have been my mom's favorite episode ever (next to Andrew Lloyd of course)! Unfortunately for us, the final five didn't step up this week. Thankfully we have crazy Paula to talk about. In case you missed it, the clip below includes the most wacked out moment of the night. Do you think she was just confused since she probably spends a lot more time at rehearsals than the other judges?

As for the rest of the evening, overall . . .

Jason Castro started off OK. I liked "Forever in Blue Jeans" more than the judges, but I felt like they needed an animated sparkle in his eye to top off the performance. The judges want the old Jason back and I think if he doesn't change it up next week then he is out.
David Cook wins the night again. It was a nice touch to sport the AC initials on his blazer and guitar in support of his brother. The judges loved his songs, Simon called him brilliant, and Paula even said she felt like she was already looking at the next America Idol (of course she also brought out the crazy last night so that isn't saying much).
Brooke's first song made me declare myself SO over her. Fortunately she was much better the second time around, but I still think she is most likely to be voted off this week.
Archuleta is every 13-year-old girl's dream come true, and since they are the ones voting, he obviously has a great shot at the title. The first song didn't wow anyone but considering his choice of "Sweet Caroline," it's sad he couldn't bring us to our feet. The judges were more responsive to his second song, and it looks like he's hoping America is as well.
Syesha was old fashioned, according to Simon, on her first song, but she was the best dressed (great hair and makeup) and most energetic last night. I think Simon is making it obvious he doesn't want her to win considering his comments last night but who knows, maybe he is using his best reverse psychology on us.

Idol Goes Broadway!

It was Andrew Lloyd Webber week on American Idol, and I'd love to tell you what I thought about the performances, but I was too busy singing along to notice. I'm kidding (kind of), but how fun to see some of our favorite Broadway ballads brought to the Kodak Theater stage. The judges banter was sadly kept to a minimum, despite the fact that they have to fill the hour with only nine to 12 minutes of singing. Just saying.

I'm beginning to think that Syesha could surprise us all in the end. Not only did she look smoking hot last night, but she sounded awesome and finally showed off some personality. Simon thought it was sexy.
Jason Castro was not even all right for me, dawg. His voice sounded weak and, come on, he didn't know the songs in Cats are sung by cats?
Okay, Brooke White, enough with the false starts. For the second time she started and stopped her performance to try again. I found it pretty audacious, as did Paula, but Simon and Randy seemed to think it was the right thing to do. She's still pretty adorable but losing her charm.
Little David Archuleta followed Andrew Lloyd Webber's advice and kept his eyes open! He also had one of the best song choices of the night with "Think of Me." I didn't even mind that he mixed it up a little; the judges loved it too.
ALW definitely saved Carly be steering her towards "Jesus Christ Superstar" and away from "All I Ask of You." Simon thought she was a bit shouty — true. Love her dress.
While I love David Cook's song choice with “Music of the Night,” I have mixed feelings about the performance. He sounded great and really put his heart into it, but there's just something a little silly about Mr. Rocker going Broadway.

Overall, I really enjoyed Andrew Lloyd Weber night and thankfully no one totally botched it. Highlights: Syesha and David Archuleta. Bottom three: Brooke, Jason, Carly. I think we may be saying farewell to our dreadlocked Castro tonight. Check out Buzz for more on last night and let us know who you think is going home.

American Idol . . . Here's Mariah

Considering that Mariah has more No. 1 singles than Elvis and has worked with Randy Jackson for years, it was only a matter of time before she was on the show. Her new album hit stores yesterday, and considering Ashlee Simpson has an album coming out around the same time, we think the AI guest star option is a way better way to promote it than the engaged and maybe pregnant way to get headlines (ouch but true).

Overall Simon concluded the truth: As usual, the men won the night! Syesha was the only woman worth noting, hitting those high notes while glowing in her gold gown.

As for the boys, David Archuleta was solid, and Cook was emotional as well as the best performance, choosing the most memorable Mariah song of the night. Jason Castro had a great beat but wasn't the best.

My favorite part was when Simon was all proud of the "Simon for President" sign that Ryan then tore up. Tonight I think we'll see Carly, Brooke, and Kristy Lee Cook in the final three and I'm thinking Carly's time is up. Three wanna-be American Idols will go on national TV tonight, trying to impress Americans in an attempt to get the most votes. I'm not talking talented singers, but rather the final three presidential candidates. I wonder if Ryan Seacrest is available to host Democratic debate #537?

American Idol Inspired!

Finally! An entertaining episode where almost all of the performances were worth watching! The group inspired me to vote last night.

Michael Johns "Dream On" = excellent!
Syesha hit the high notes, but I was not a fan of her Fanstasia song choice.
Jason Castro knows how to pick 'em. Great song choice and performance!
Kristy Lee stepped it up. Her looks are what will keep her in, but her voice actually proved to be excellent this week.
David Cook was good but sadly not as memorable as weeks past.
Carly picked a great song, but I am just not that into her.
David Archuleta will win over even more fans than his already huge following. It was the first song of his I have really liked in a while.
Brooke continues to be all sunshine and puppies. Clearly she is all about being happy and did her best Gwyneth Paltrow lookalike impression paired with that soft sweet voice. It's marketing gold.

Since it's Idol Gives Back week, we're thinking they may not do the elimination round like last year, but if there is a bottom three then I am guessing Carly, Syesha, and David Cook (sorry, buddy, but your time has come to feel the heat). The real mystery of the night isn't about who will be booted off but what was going on with Paula's boobs. Poor things looked in pain.

Star-Studded Celebrity Roster Supports Idol Gives Back

Idol Gives Back brought out quite the crowd from all different areas of the entertainment industry for the taping in Hollywood last night. Reese and Brad shared their pretty faces with the audience, while Mariah and Miley were among the musical performers of the night. Teri showed off her pipes (even though most of you wish she wouldn't) and Fergie took the stage to do a song with Heart. As for the theme of the night, Carrie Underwood summed it up nicely, saying, "It's not about self-promoting. It's not about singing your latest single. It's not about trying to be the most-downloaded whatever on iTunes. It's all about getting people to call in and do something." The charitable special airs this Wednesday, and we can't wait to check out the wonderful edition of one of our favorite shows.

Brad Pitt Was Speechless on American Idol

Brad Pitt took his new favorite hat to the Kodak Theater in Hollywood last night to tape his segment for Idol Gives Back. Naturally he was greeted with no shortage of cheers when he took the stage to introduce a clip about Chris Daughtry's trip to Uganda. Unfortunately for Brad, there was a slight technical malfunction — his microphone wasn't working! Everything got sorted out, thanks to a couple of lucky assistants who got a very up close and personal celebrity sighting. Something tells us this part of the show won't make the final cut when the special airs on Wednesday, but just seeing Brad on our small screens will be fine with us.

American Idol Dolly Night

Tonight on AI, apparently there was more drama than from Simon's usual disgust. Ryan's knee issues and David Cook's post-show hospital trip make it sound like more exciting stuff was going on behind the scenes than on the actual show. Simon was pretty much let down by most of the contestants, and we have to say for this point of the competition, we'd hope for better performances also. Maybe I'm still bitter Chikezie got the boot last week.

As for this week:

Michael Johns continues to be one of my favorites and was clearly the highlight of the night!
Jason Castro was good again for the first time in a while.
Syesha ended on a high note (literally), but she should really stop trying to be the next Whitney 'cause she's so not close.
Brooke was good, but the best part of her last night was her makeup — so pretty!
No one could tell David Cook wasn't feeling well, since his performance was excellent.
I am over David Archuleta, but he was good and he isn't going anywhere for a while.
Kristy Lee looked pretty but for someone who was excelling in country music, she didn't impress me this week at all.

Bottom three: Ramiele, Carly, and probably Kristy Lee Cook, and of these three, I would not be sad to see any of them go home.

Reese Helps Idol Give Back

Reese Witherspoon took a break from hanging out with her own adorable kids to spend some time at a school in New Orleans as part of Idol Gives Back. She read stories, chatted, and posed for photos with the happy kids as part of the special charity episode of American Idol. The episode airs April 9 and will feature other celebs like Bono and Brad Pitt. Last year the event raked in $60 million, and we can't wait to see if Reese and everyone else can do an even better job this year.

American Idol Top 10 Baby!

A contestant born in the '90s — OMG, really, he's a baby. Anyway, more reason to love Michael Johns. My early favorite finally got his groove back last night! He sounded strong like he was back in the early auditions when he wowed us.

Other notables: Rocker David Cook continued to impress. I thought Simon might bash him since he never seems to like Michael Jackson songs, but Cook's version was unique and he pulled it off, so no doubt he will be around next week. Also safe is David Archuleta. Although Simon wasn't into him, he's got his hardcore fans.

As for the ladies, top choices again are Brooke and Syesha. As for Jason, as I write this I can't even remember his performance. I think he is getting boring, so hopefully next week he'll be more exciting, since I would love to see him stay in the competition for a while. Oh, also safe: Kristy Lee Cook, who continues to look hot and this week even impressed the judges with her voice. Nice improvement for KLC.

Bottom three — Looks like Buzz and I agree that they will include the adorable but just not as strong Ramiele, Chikezie, and Carly. I sadly think one of the first two will be saying goodbye, while I wish Carly would be the one sent home.

American Idol Top 11 Butcher the Beatles

Simon was spot on when he said doing Beatles for a second week basically killed all the great memories from last week. I don't understand how there are so many wonderful Beatles tunes to choose from and yet somehow this group managed to pick things we had never heard or just destroy some classics. Such a shame.

Once again I liked Brooke; even though this week showed all her quirky awkward traits, I agreed with Paula that she just makes me smile. Others who were worth watching were David Archuleta, Syesha, Jason Castro, and David Cook. While Cook was impressive, he is clearly getting cocky, which is why I think Simon was trying to put him back in his place last night. Also, even though Simon bashed Michael Johns, it took major guts to do that song so he's got to get some credit for that.

Amanda — still bugs. What can I say, I just am in no way into her. Average Kristy Lee and Carly will probably make it through, while adorable Ramiele may be in the bottom three but I am hoping Chikezie takes her place instead. I enjoyed him but I think, like the judges, many people didn't like him.
