Well, July may not be the biggest book release time of the year (go figure), and it's a little weak on the music, too — but there are still plenty of entertainment options capturing my attention this month. My must haves include Summer escapism in an air-conditioned movie theater, an interesting read, a trip to the '60s, and one musical beacon whose new album has me excited. I'm looking forward to some top albums and DVDs that are released this month, as well as some exciting films which are hitting the big screen. To see what I'm adding to my shopping cart and heading to the cinema for this July, just hit "Start."

I am really looking forward to seeing
The Dark Knight for a myriad of reasons: Maggie Gyllenhaal taking over Katie Holmes' role from the previous Batman movie, seeing where all the guerilla marketing leads, and of course seeing Heath Ledger in his final full role.
A few months ago, after Heath died, I had conversations with friends saying they were unsure if they'd be able to watch his performance in this movie when it was released. But after time has passed and more clips have emerged a few have come round to it as he's almost unrecognisable in the psychopathic role. So take a look at the trailer and let me know what you think – can you not wait for the movie.

When I headed back to the theaters this weekend to see
Iron Man a second time, I noticed something about the oh, 30 minutes of previews that ran before the feature. There's an excellent, spine-tingly new trailer for
The Dark Knight which, if I already weren't completely anxious to see that film, I certainly would be now. While it's heartbreaking to see Heath up there onscreen as The Joker, it's also totally mesmerizing.

Hollywood, like any industry, has become increasingly creative in promoting its products, including the use of sneaky/innovative guerrilla and viral marketing tactics. For example,
political advertisements for Harvey Dent have popped up on billboards in several cities (with a website that was live long before that) as part of the marketing campaign for
The Dark Knight (Harvey Dent a.k.a. Two-Face will be played by Aaron Eckhart).

Heath Ledger's
sudden, shocking death yesterday has left several of his current projects up in the air. The biggest among them is this Summer's
The Dark Knight, but Ledger was also shooting a film with director Terry Gilliam and was preparing for his directorial debut. Here's some of the latest news:
- The Dark Knight is still on track for its July 18 release as of Tuesday.

Finally. The
Dark Knight trailer currently being shown before
I Am Legend in theaters is online in a version that's not a shaky bootleg taken with someone's camera phone.
However, so far the only versions of the 6-minute clip from the Dark Knight, also shown before I Am Legend, are those jerky, low-quality bootlegs,
like this one.
