Project Runway Rundown: Episode 8, "Double-0 Fashion" The "design something for a fashion icon" challenge is nothing new for Project Runway, but what was rather refreshing about Wednesday's episode was that the icon this time truly was a legend. The designers were asked to design something that would impress Diane von Furstenbeg — she of the wrap dress — enough that she would consider including it in her next collection.

The pressure was on during last night's episode of Project Runway. The queen bee of prints and wrap dresses, Diane von Furstenberg, was present to rate the runway and give one lucky competitor an opportunity of a lifetime. The designers were asked to create a look for the fashion legend using reference from her Fall line. Some designs were on point — take a lookie at Leanne's royal blue ruffled frock seen left — and others, well, not so much. See all of their hard work and tell me which is your favorite.

The "design something for a fashion icon" challenge is nothing new for Project Runway, but what was rather refreshing about Wednesday's episode was that the icon this time truly was a legend. The designers were asked to design something that would impress Diane von Furstenbeg — she of the wrap dress — enough that she would consider including it in her next collection. That was a pretty big deal for all the designers (except maybe Blayne, who would have preferred an Olsen twin), and they really let the pressure show as they worked on the challenge.

In fact, none of them let Diane's iconic status get to them more than the typically smooth Kenley. She was sobbing so much through all of her early interviews, in fact, that I was convinced she'd be the one sent home. Then again, maybe her tears came because things in the workroom were so tense — I'm not sure I've ever seen a season of Project Runway where all the designers seemed to dislike each other so early. There's a feud a'brewing between Leanne and Kenley, another between Korto and Terri, still another between Terri and . . . everyone else. The Parsons workroom just doesn't seem like a very happy place to be right now.

Fab Flash: Tara Subkoff Takes FORM

"Karmic and cosmic" is how Tara Subkoff describes her new position as the artistic director of FORM's Spring '09 collection.

FORM founder Jerry Tam, the first one ousted from this season of Project Runway, had ties with Subkoff in the past as her intern at Imitation of Christ. "It's so great to be able to support one of my first interns at such a crucial time," said Subkoff.

Despite FORM's angular past, the new designs are said to encompass softer lines that were inspired by the Rococo movement using gauze, cottons, and silks. The collection will debut during the upcoming New York Fashion Week.

Last night's episode of Project Runway was surprisingly entertaining (I figured it would be hard to follow the drag queen episode) — not because of the challenge, per se, but because Tim Gunn shamed the designers right off the bat, reminding them of how pathetically they performed in the very first challenge that required innovative thinking. And thank goodness Tim lit that fire under their you-know-whats, because otherwise we would have seen a boatload of beige seat belt pencil skirts coming down that runway, which makes me fall asleep just typing about it.

As it happened, we were only subjected to a small percentage of seat belt skirts (and one unfortunate seat belt dress) while a good portion of the designers used this challenge as a moment to stand out. So far this season I've been unsure about which designers I would want to see at Bryant Park, and this ~~Saturn hybrid commercial~~ car parts challenge helped me understand who among this group has taste and vision and who just . . . doesn't. I'm just gonna put it out there: Spoiler alert! Most of the creations from last night's Project Runway turned out better than I thought. Another pleasant surprise was who was auf'd. Keith has increasingly demonstrated questionable design skills and, as was pointed out last night, has increasingly demonstrated attitude. I knew it was coming sooner or later, although this should have happened last week when he sent a nonplussed drag queen look down the runway. Oh! And the guest judge, none other than Rachel Zoe, whom we've been revealing all sorts of juicy tidbits about leading up to her Bravo show, The Rachel Zoe Project. Zoe was nice and approachable compared to Nina Garcia stand-in Laura Bennett (who also instantly seemed to dislike Keith). Bad vibes man. Meanwhile, Zoe had a fondness for Korto's seatbelted dress coat; it was superb, but not Korto's best. Congrats to the winner, and the loser. Where you happy to see Keith go?

Project Runway Goes Drag I'll take designing for drag queens over WWE divas any day. The designers got their chance at over-the-top and I'm satisfied that most of them lived up to the challenge. It's always a joy to be in the presence of season four alum Chris March and the queens were delightful — such personalities.

I'll take designing for drag queens over WWE divas any day. The designers got their chance at over-the-top and I'm satisfied that most of them lived up to the challenge. It's always a joy to be in the presence of season four alum Chris March and the queens were delightful — such personalities. There is definitely a lot of creativity in this group and this challenge set it free. However, once again I disagree with the winner. I'll spare you any spoilers because the eye candy is just too good . . . viva la drag!
