Russell Brand is apparently in negotiations to play the younger brother of Captain Jack (aka Johnny Depp) in the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie! Reports today suggest he could earn up to £5million for the role, and even if this is a nice fluffy bit of publicity for Russell after his recent mishaps I have to say I think it would be a lot of fun. I loved his turn in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and I think the craziness of Captain Jack and Captain Jonathan would be rather amusing. But what do you think? Johnny Depp stepped out in Hollywood over the weekend looking young, hot, and like the coolest guy in town. Even as he gets older, Johnny never loses his appeal, so it's no wonder that he's breaking records with his paychecks and still topping lists as the sexiest man alive. Even if Vanessa Paradis doesn't have plans to marry Johnny, the two adore each other and their family, which seems to be influencing Johny's movie choices these days. In addition to a fourth Pirates, Johnny will be making another slightly dark take on a children's story teaming up again with Tim Burton for Alice in Wonderland.

Half the men in the top ten are over forty, with George Clooney in second place (beating Brad Pitt for the first time, who comes in fifth) and Will Smith in eighth. Britain is represented by Daniel Craig in fourth position, James McAvoy in sixth and David Beckham in ninth, while Jake Gyllenhaal is the sexiest younger man in third position, and Justin Timberlake and Wentworth Miller do it for the boys at numbers seven and ten. Another 20-something city girl: Anne Hathaway will play the lead role in the film version of a book I really enjoyed: The Opposite of Love. The movie is about "a commitment-phobic attorney who finds her well-constructed life coming apart at the seams when she rebuffs her ready-for-marriage boyfriend."
Before I was legend: Well, it's official — Will Smith will reprise his role as Dr. Robert Neville in an I Am Legend prequel. This movie "will cover the final days of humanity in New York City before a man-made virus creates a plague that wipes out the population, leaving Neville alone with the mutated inhabitants."
What's the latest in vampire news, Buzz?: Funny you should ask! Cloverfield director Matt Reeves's next project is a "vampire tale" titled Let the Right One In, a remake of a Swedish film about "a young boy who befriends a female neighbor who moves to town." I bet she's not your ordinary neighbor.
More vampires, not so much movie related: Mostly I'm just excited about this news because it's about Guillermo del Toro (yay!!) who "is collaborating with crime author Chuck Hogan on a trilogy of vampire novels, starting next Summer with The Strain. I love that guy (del Toro, not Chuck Hogan).

Disney has formally announced today that the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland movie will be played by Johnny Depp (of course!). The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop:

Depp and Burton. . . have formed one of the longest-running director-actor partnerships in modern Hollywood. And so when Burton committed to filming a new live-action/CG version of Alice, Depp was touted as the most likely candidate to play the Mad Hatter — after all, having worked with Burton on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he's practiced in wearing a top hat.

We also have a Tweedledee and Tweedledum — er, we have a Tweedle. Matt Lucas will play both Tweedledee and Tweedledum.

The Johnny Depp news is no surprise, really, but it's exciting to know that it's a done deal! I wonder if the next announcement will be that Helena Bonham Carter is the Queen of Hearts?

Johnny Depp Gets the Old Band Back Together

Johnny Depp took the stage in Pompano Beach, Florida last night, but rather than looking like an A-List actor, he rocked out with his old band, The Kids. This isn't the first time Johnny has reunited with the band for a good cause and last night they were out to honor their former manger, Sheila Witkin, with proceeds going to the Dan Marino Foundation. Have to love how much he's channeling the high school grunge garage band look with his plaid shirt around his waist as he sweated and jammed his way through the set. Vanessa Paradis and their daughter Lily Rose were in the audience to watch dad get back to his youth for a good cause. Pretty hot, right?

The lil girl who lost her daddy to a tragic death last year will benefit from the loving gift of three other fathers. Heath Ledger died of an accidental prescription drug overdose in January and his will had not been updated to include his two-year-old daughter. The late actor was in the midst of filming The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus so three actors —Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell — stepped in to finish playing his role. Beyond making good on Heath's acting commitment, the men, who are all fathers, donated their salaries to the child.
