Renee Zellweger was all smiles and
high hair last night at the Academy Theater in Beverly Hills for the premiere of her new movie,
Appaloosa. There hasn't been too much buzz about the film, which opened in limited release yesterday —
check out the trailer here — but the cast seems like a close bunch. Renee, Viggo Mortensen, and Ed Harris had nothing but kisses and hugs for each other joined by the Cox-Arquettes on the red carpet.
Appaloosa hasn't really been on my radar since
the casting news was first announced over a year ago, which I find odd, especially since it stars some pretty big names, is directed by Ed Harris, and looks all Western epic-y. By contrast, we've had to see every new
photo and
poster and
trailer for
Australia as that film has been in production — and that one's coming out two months after this one. So, I find the lack of Appaloosa awareness to be strange.

Whether they
won or lost last night, the nominees got together after the
Awards for the
Governors ball. George and Sarah stuck to water while he made the rounds introducing her to everyone. He was also happy to point out to everyone how good she looked (though you
might not agree) and
offered to carry her when she commented about her dress being too heavy.

Viggo Mortensen is in the
Oscar race for best actor in Eastern Promises and I can't wait to see him again on the red carpet. I've been a fan of his since A Perfect Murder, and although he hasn't aged as gracefully as I'd hoped, he's still pretty sexy if you ask me! There's something very mysterious about him that keeps me intrigued.

Yesterday afternoon in LA, this year's
Oscar nominees got together for a little luncheon to start celebrating themselves. While the show is still in limbo due to the writers' strike, the good news that there have been
"breakthroughs" in negotiations keep us hoping that all will be good well before the red carpet kicks off. 2008 Award Season staples Javier Bardem and Casey Affleck were back in suits alongside
Juno's Diablo Cody and Ellen Page (who still looks a tad uncomfortable on the red carpet).

Ryan Gosling was just about the only guy keeping it interesting with his fashion choice at last night's
SAG Awards in LA. Along with his shimmery suit, plaid shirt and lack of tie, he wore a black ribbon on his lapel in honor of Heath Ledger. The rest of the men went pretty traditional, but at least all those handsome faces were there to keep us satisfied.

Cormac McCarthy's novel
No Country for Old Men has proven so successful in
movie format, there's already another film in pre-production based on another of his works,
The Road. Variety is reporting today that Charlize Theron has signed on for the project, and will star alongside Viggo Mortensen. Apparently, Theron is a huge fan of the novel.

Naomi Watts left the partying to her co-stars last night at the screening for
Eastern Promises in New York.
30 Rock newcomer Edie Falco is proving that there is still life after
The Sopranos, although scoring an
Emmy on Sunday would definitely be a sweet send off from the show. Meanwhile, is it just us, or did Viggo Mortensen's hotness sort of disappear after the Lord Of The Rings days?

The news:
Renee Zellweger and Viggo Mortensen will star in Appaloosa, a Western based on
a Robert B. Parker novel. Ed Harris will direct and also star.
Here's the story:
According to Variety, the film centers on "a pair of friends hired to protect a lawless town suffering at the hands of a renegade rancher.

The theme for today's
Valentine's Day Playlist is cynical love songs, which — like relationships themselves — can be both beautiful and bittersweet. The same can be said for one of my favorite romantic dramas,
A Walk on the Moon, which one minute makes you hopeful about love then turns you into an utter pessimist the next.
This well-crafted story takes place at a Jewish summer retreat in the Catskills, where housewife Pearl Katrowitz (Diane Lane) is watching her daughter (Anna Paquin) revel in teenage freedom and wishing her own youth hadn't been cut short by an unexpected pregnancy.
