Mary-Louise Parker and LL Cool J took some time out earlier this week to visit The Today Show and read to children attending Jumpstart's Read for the Record event in New York City. The actress and her little friend waved for the cameras on a break from the book. MLP has two kids of her own, but apparently her on-screen son Hunter Parrish is basically family at this point too.

All the women at the Primetime Emmy Awards looked beautiful on the red carpet last night, but some caught our eyes more than others with their bright and colorful gowns. Last night Los Angeles played host to the 2008 Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony, where all our favourite TV stars lined up on the red carpet in gorgeous gowns and smart suits. Mad Men star Christina Hendricks looked stunning in her dark green dress, and Weeds actress Mary-Louise Parker brightened up the red carpet in her bright blue number. There were a smattering of Brits among those on the red carpet including Ugly Betty star Ashley Jensen and her Extras costar Ricky Gervais.
The ladies were bursting with color and sparkle at last night's Emmy Awards. Christina Applegate looked positively radiant and was the talk of the night — smiley, happy and healthy. Mary Louise Parker was the most eye catching of all in her bright blue number though you all were fairly divided on the look while Brooke Shields lived up to the name of her show in Lipstick pink.

Weeds star Mary-Louise looks stunning and simplistic in a turquoise Roberto Cavalli gown. The pleating around the torso is interesting and ultimately flattering. The delicate jewels lining the straps prevents the dress from being boring, and her crystallized black clutch is wicked.

Showtime's Weeds wrapped up its fourth season on Monday. The show shook things up this time around, leaving behind suburbia for a new life on the Mexican border — not to mention ditching its signature "Little Boxes" theme (and Conrad!). Did you think Weeds was as good this time?

New York Fashion Week kicked off today, which means there were plenty of celebs on hand to support the designers. Kate Hudson smiled big with Rachel Zoe at the launch of her new show, while Audrina showed that LC, Whitney, and Heidi aren't the only Hills fashionistas. We watched as Charlize and Stuart got totally mobbed by paparazzi and had the awesome opportunity to chat with Agyness Deyn, as well as the beautiful Lindsay Price — check out our blog over on Elle.

I've said it once and I'll say it again: There's nothing like a red hot dress. Sure to turn heads, the red dress is a purveyor of power, femininity, and sexuality. I tend to stow away my red dresses for the Winter months, but if it's hot outside, make the world swelter by throwing on a red frock.
