John Mayer suited up and grabbed his guitar to perform at Susan and Tony Bennett's Exploring the Arts Gala, a fundraiser for school music programs, in NYC last night. Whoopi Goldberg played hostess for the evening and immediately pegged John as her new crush after his performance. John's Summer tour may be over, but he was happy to participate in the charity event, saying,"There's 12-year-old John Coltranes and Miles Davises walking around. They just don't know it yet." Sounds like John is ready to embrace some competition from the talented up-and-comers.

Who Wins: Microsoft's Seinfeld Ads or Apple's Mac vs. PC Ads?

Though the second Microsoft ad featuring Jerry Seinfeld is a lot funnier than the first, I can't help but feel that it's still lacking . . . direction? Humor? As a die-hard Seinfeld fan, I'm disappointed that these spots aren't as "Jerry" as his humor on the show was, and even more disappointed because I don't really know what Microsoft is trying to say. Contrast that with their rival Apple, who've spun the Get a Mac ad campaign off the notion that Mac users are cool and PC users are, well, John Hodgman, and I have to call Apple as the winner again. I get the point, they don't meander, and they entertain me. Now putting aside your preference for Apple or Microsoft, tell me, which ads do you like more?

The first advertisement was recently released and it's gotten mixed reviews. Some ad-industry professionals are saying the commercial is a success because it's creating buzz about Microsoft, but others have said that it misses the mark and does nothing to change the brand's dull image.

Gwyneth Shops and Shoots For Many a Cause

Gwyneth Paltrow invited some fashionable friends to Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld's Hamptons estate last Friday for a chance to shop the Tod's Fall collection. Diane Kruger, Kelly Ripa, and the label's designer, Derek Lam, were among those who joined the fashion house's Fall muse at the benefit for Jessica's Baby Buggy foundation. Gwyneth's charitable actions aren't limited just to helping kids, though. On top of fronting a new anticancer campaign, she's also starring in a PSA urging Americans living abroad to vote in the Presidential election, which you can see after the jump. To think Gwyneth can do all that in shorts so tiny even Jerry took note.
