Whee! Check Out a New Flight of the Conchords Promo

Via the Watcher comes the most delightful 40 seconds of my day: a new promo for Flight of the Conchords. The HBO comedy, with New Zealanders Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement singing goofy song parodies and trying to make it big in New York, begins its second season Jan. 18.

The show's second season may be its last, so I for one am planning to soak in every minute of ridiculous comedy this Winter. This promo is short, but it's also pretty representative of the Conchords dynamic: Jemaine wants to make a serious promo for the show; Bret wants to be a gangster. To check it out, just

I have been semi-obsessed with oversized, clunky and illogical camera phones ever since I saw the "Mugged" episode of Flight of the Conchords where Jemaine's handmade camera phone (it's literally a camera and phone taped together) gets taken by a street thug. This Canon camera phone is even more fantastic because it combines a spectacular camera with a rotary phone base. Cause everyone needs a rotary phone that can capture images within cord distance, right?

Granted Bret and Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords may not be early adopters to the latest gadgets, but they aren't totally clueless when it comes to tech — they've at least proven that they know difference between a DVD and a VHS! Flight of the Conchords always cracks me up, so when I saw this $10 Flight of the Conchords: Eco-Friendly Mouse Pad on Hippy Shopper, I had to convince myself that my desk accessories need a little makeover. Besides, looking at two adorably goofy guys all day isn't that difficult either.

Welcome to the Writers' Room, Thanks to the New York Times

Earlier this year, TV writers were in the news like never before — but, unfortunately, that's because they were on strike. So, what's it like when they're working? The New York Times has given us a peek, taking us inside the rooms where the writers come up with the dramatic scenes and witty one-liners that make television so great.

The story goes inside five different writers' rooms. Awesomely, each one belongs to a favorite show of mine: Flight of the Conchords, Weeds, Damages, How I Met Your Mother, and House.

Some fun facts: The Damages room includes a rescued puppy who barks every time a page comes out of the printer. The Mother staff chomps salt-and-vinegar potato chips, while the Weeds room is a sugar-free zone. House writers actually use a whiteboard a la their title character when he's working on a diagnosis, and the Conchords spend a large portion of their day looking up old music videos on YouTube.

I was impressed by the patchwork pattern of colored index cards in the Conchords room that reportedly tracks "every idea [they've] ever had in the last six months," as well as by the fact that Weeds writers aren't allowed to have their cell phones in the room. Overall, it's a cool glimpse into a side of the writing life that we viewers don't get to see very often. Go check it out, and then tell me: What TV show do you imagine has the coolest writers' room? (I've long thought it's probably The Office.)

Prepare to Laugh: New Flight of the Conchords Video I'm still smiling after having watched the video for the The Flight of the Conchords' single "Ladies of the World," off of their new self-titled album (one of my April must-haves). They "just want to do something special for all the ladies in the world" and they show us this by twirling around on their skates, singing shout-outs to all the ladies (and hermaphrodites) around the globe.

As low-tech as the boys of Flight of the Conchords are, they're a geek entertainment staple. Don't get me wrong, it's not a show devoid of tech references, it's just that they're not exactly discussing 3G and Ubuntu here. Nope, my favorite New Zealanders may not be Apple devotees or own a flat screen, but at least Bret and Jemaine know the difference between DVD and VHS. Murray, I'm not so sure about. He kills me, that one — watch this clip for his appraisal of how fast technology moves! Whew!
