"I know that you cannot live on hope alone, but without it, life is not worth living." — Harvey Milk
The story of gay rights activist and politician Harvey Milk had a huge impact on me a few years ago when I first watched the Oscar-winning documentary about him,
The Times of Harvey Milk. His is truly a stranger-than-fiction tale and is so full of inspiration, absurdity, and absolute heartache that it's somewhat surprising it has taken this long to create a feature-length dramatization of his life and death.

The
Milk premiere brought out Hollywood actors, political figures and the movie's real life inspirations in SF last night. Sean Penn walked the red carpet with Robin by his side but skipped chatting with reporters to greet fans. TR Knight and his boyfriend came to support the film along with the stars of the movie including Josh Brolin, Diego Luna, Alison Pill and happy to return to his home James Franco.

One of the movies I'm most looking forward to this Fall is
Milk, which filmed in my fair city of San Francisco last Winter. Directed by Gus Van Sant, the movie follows the true story of Harvey Milk, the nation's first gay official of any major American city, who was assassinated shortly after his election to office. The story has already been covered by a
moving documentary, and in Milk, Sean Penn steps into the title role.

Straight from the
set of her movie, Hilary Duff was showing off all sorts of outfits at Los Premios MTV Latin America 2007 last night in Mexico City. She showed off her stems on stage (yowza), but didn't take home any awards at the big show. Instead,
Avril Lavigne nabbed two, for Best International Pop Artist and Song of the Year for "Girlfriend."

Fancy meeting you here Diego Luna, Mark Ruffalo, Eric Bana and Gael García Bernal. These four swarthy men are all at the
Toronto Film Festival promoting their movies and what more yummy way to enjoy them than all together. Diego and Gael were in town to show off their newest project, Deficit (Bernal directed and stars, Luna produced) while Ruffalo,
after his own event, was just there to enjoy the film.
