Mike Myers, Robin Williams, Adam Sandler - once they become big money making machines, I guess no one can tell them when they're repeating themselves or just being stupid.

I really think this brand of comedy is over for now. We've all moved on to lovable loser/buddy comedies. Look at the success of recent Judd Apatow movies as proof: 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked-Up, Superbad all did amazingly well, while Dewy Cox (an outrageous character, much like The Love Guru) completely tanked.

I would love to see Mike Myers in another movie where he's not covered head to toe in ridiculous costume.

In complete agreement with jasmint. BTW, the part in the LG commercial where he says, "I would invite you but I know you have your meeting with the lollipop guild" is annoying and so not funny.

I think most of America is over him and all of his characters tend to be the same in every movie (other than Shrek). I think he should pull a Jim Carrey and try doing a more serious movie role... if he can find the right part... I think people would definitely want to see that. I would anyways.

LOL emily - my husband and I still quote from that movie. Head - pillow - now! Smiling

I love the Skrek movies -- so I think his time is over as a live character actor, but not as a voice actor.

I have to say that I thought Mike Myers was better when he did short sketch comedy (SNL). To me, his characters just become tiresome when stretched out to full feature length.

I agree, stephley, they don't have anyone to edit them down and it just gets ridiculous. Eddy Murphy's like that too - I like him much better in other people's projects than his own (Norbit vs. Trading Places, anyone?). Even Mel Brooks's best movie (IMHO) is Young Frankenstein, and that is great because he had Gene Wilder to balance him out & not let him go overboard.

This movie simply doesn't appeal to me. The first Austin Powers was genius. The last two were just blatant attempts to cash in. The reason Austin Powers worked was because we had a reference - James Bond - and he made fun of a lot of the stereotypes and arcane misogynistic undertones. It was satire - pointing out that how can a James Bond exist in a world of AIDS, the feminist movement, distrust of government agencies, etc. This love guru movie - there's no reference unless it's Dr. Phil or something. And if it was supposed to be like a Dr. Phil / Deepak Chopra thing, the costume shouldn't have been so stupid / offensive. It reminds me of Ricky Gervais on Extras when he got a show because he had a funny wig, glasses, and a catch phrase and the networks thought that was all people wanted to see. Even he didn't think it was funny and was ashamed to be on the show. I think Mike Myers is really funny, but I can't justify $15 to take the risk that it's worth it.

I think it's important to remind ourselves that so far this summer almost all film critics and reviewers have apparently grown an immense resentment of their jobs. These critics have obviously been voicing cries of help for career changes through their reviews. They talk so much about how they didn't like, but offer no explanation as to why the films aren't worth watching (from a perspective other than pure opinion). They give no basis or evidence for their opinions (they would call them arguments, but you can't call it an argument when you don't give any support to your position).

i think that we all have to remember that every great actor can't be great all the time. i'm sure that he'll come out with something wonderful again. patience!

Jessica Alba strikes another blow to Hollywood. And yet, she will still get roles...

I agree with the posters at the start who said these movies are passe now.

I agree, he hasn't come out with anything good in awhile. Shrek was good and so was Austin Powers at first but even those got old. The third one sucked. I agree that he should follow Jim Carrey's footsteps and attempt to do something more serious. All of Mike Meyers characters are exactly the same and I think anyone who is past the age of 10 is over all the potty humor. Seeing The Love Guru wouldn't even cross my mind.

I really didn't want to see this because of Jessica Alba (sorry honey), but my friend forced me to go see it with her and it had it's moments, but I agree. Still think he's smart enough to get himself back in the game.

I really like Mike Myers and its nice that he doesn't make comedies where they say "f*ck" all of the time (although I do like some of those movies, especially the ones by Judd Apatow, sometimes its just not necessary to curse that much). However I don't really want to see The Love Guru, mainly because Jessica Alba's in it, but I think Mike Myers isn't the problem. I still think he's hilarious.

I thought he was crap from the beginning. Austin Powers was probably the best thing he did, and it was awful at best.

I agree with californiagirlx7. He definitely isn't the problem in this one. He is really funny, as is proved in talk show interviews or the MTV Movie Awards, but maybe the movies he's picking these days don't do him justice.

i agree with everyone - mike meyers is a funny man - and his older films like austin powers (the first 2 NOT the 3rd) and married an axe murderer were great movies. but it seems like it is time for a new type of film. your right jasmint - the audience wants to see a different type of movie. and i feel you can see in movies like this one that he's trying a little bit toooo hard- especially by adding "young hollywood" types to appeal to a certain genre.. he needs to stop, think , and reinvent himself.

I didn't want to see the Love Guru becaue the trailer was horrible. I didn't even think about laughing once. And Jessica Alba's last comedy (Good Luck Chuck) absolutly sucked! She should stick to more serious movies. I liked her the best in Honey and Into the Blue.

I agree with stephley and jasmint. But I think Mike Myers can redeem himself. He is a funny man. One poster said something about pulling a Jim Carrey and doing a serious role - I'm not so sure I agree with that one.
