Maybe he'll pull a Skeet Ulrich in a few years and come back after saying that he wouldn't.

hopefully he'll have a career to come back to. i don't want to see him on the small screen ala skeet. he's way too talented for the boob tube.

i was a huge river phoenix fan and was gutted when he died. it was nice to see his beloved brother take up the mantle but to see him leave in his prime. just sad as far as movies go.

who's left of his generation? i can't think of one person off the top of my head with his acting chops...

He has got to be kidding. He just...has to be. He is definitely the best actor of his generation. I hope he at least keeps working until he finally gets the Oscar he deserves so much.
On the other hand, I'd love to see what kind of music career he's planning on. I loved his singing in Walk the Line, even if it was supposed to sound like Johnny. I think Joaquin could be great musically, if that's what he wants to do.

Maybe Joaquin is trying to create buzz for himself. Kind of like a store saying they are going out of business then after they have a grand reopening.

for those old enough to remember river...

joaquin needs to get his act together. part of me thinks he's dealing with the knowledge that it's almost fifteen years to the day since losing his brother. he knows the pain of what can happen at the viper room. i hope he's not turning a blind eye to his wellbeing.

The great part about any kind of entertainment is you can alway change your mind later. It may feel right for Juaquin to retire now and pursue music or something else, but he can always come back later regardless of what he says now. Things are subject to change.
even in 3 5, 7 years or more.

I don't get all the Julia Roberts hate. It seems to be only because she is America's Sweetheart. In the 90s she was obviously loved becuase people went to see her movies. And if you've seen her Letterman interviews she's so charsmatic and charming. So what if she's not Meryl Streep? She never said she was. She's still good at what she does. Oh and she is so pregnant. You wear something like that and you start rumors.

Joaquin is on drugs. It's obvious. He needs help. He's got issues. He didn't like when that guy was laughing at him. Apparently he yelled "that guy's an a-hole" after walking out, according to reports.

Wow, Joaquin would really really be missed Sad. He's a great actor. I just saw "We Own the Night" a little while ago and it wasn't the best movie, but Joaquin was awesome in it. And Walk the Line?? Tragic. Hopefully he will change his mind.

I don't get the Julia hate either. No matter how many bad movies she does I'll always love her for her RomComs of the 90s.

seriously - joaquin is going to quit acting to be a musician? um...good luck with that i guess. i don't know what to say about that one. you do one movie that has music in it and all of a sudden you think that you can sing? i guess he's got something new to work on. as for Julia - she cracks me up - i love her, and i can't wait to see what else she's in coming up!

i had heard joaquin was focusing on music but i didn't realize he was getting out of acting for good. too bad because he truely is a talent. but maybe music is just where he needs to be right now.. maybe someone will tempt him back to acting with a killer role in a few years!

Ovenmitt is right... he needs to clean himself up. He was clearly on something, he could barely even talk!

If he is quitting to focus on music it's not going to be pretty. Hollywood isn't exactly a place that encourages people to stay straight but the music world is just going to send him down a horrible path.

I'm not anti-partying, but if you can't keep yourself inline you've gotta stay out of it. How sad after watching his brother take himself out that way.

He's a great actor and will be missed on the screen (if its true), but more than anything i hope he is just alright.

''don't get all the Julia Roberts hate. It seems to be only because she is America's Sweetheart. In the 90s she was obviously loved becuase people went to see her movies''

Most of her movies, if not all, were flops after Pretty woman. They only reason she was still in the limelight was because of her private life. Its only a couple of years after with ''My best friend's wedding'' that she regained popularity.

I just think she's overrated because she's not beautiful to my taste at all--looks like a big ugly horse to me--and she tends to be in the kind of movies that bore me to tears.

To not like somebody because you don't think they are attractive makes you appear shallow. Who says every star has to look like a perfect super model? Part of Julia's appeal is she is not like that. She is the normal, girl next door who wears jeans. and juicy you are wrong about Julia. She may have had a few failures, who hasn't but you're talking about a couple years in the mid 90s, she is technically the biggest female movie star EVER. Not just Pretty Woman, My Best Friends Wedding, Notting Hill, Runaway Bride, Erin Brockovich were all HUGE hits just because of her. Even Mona Lisa Smile did well because of her. No actress before or since has had her success whether you want to admit it or not.

And she seems like a perfectly lovely person. Just watch her Letterman interviews. So charming. People like to tear down people that are on top. She is not part of the Hollywood scene, like Paul Newman she lives a non glamourous life on a ranch with her family, not caring about the shallow world of Hollywood. I think that's commendable, especially in a world that glorifies the likes of Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton.

You clearly misundersttod my post. I replied to the person who said a lot of people went to see her movies in the 90's. Whether you want to admit it or no,t not all her movies her successful for a period of times in the 90's, she had a couple of flops in a row. Mary Reilly, I love Trouble, Dying young, Hook, Pret-a-porter, Everyone says I love you and Michael Collins. Of course, you really, really like this actress. So you ignore those movies.
