Yara Shahidi's Skirt Is Basically a Mermaid Tail, and Her Louboutins Are the Fins

Yara Shahidi hopped onto the red carpet at the BET Awards in the coolest outfit ever. The Grown-ish star showed up in a Prabal Gurung look from the Resort 2020 collection, complete with two layered sweaters (FYI: the turtleneck is cashmere) and a sequin embroidered asymmetrical sarong skirt that reminds me of a mermaid tail. Is anyone else so down to wear one of these like, tomorrow?

Yara wore braids to better show off her Hanut Singh pearl and crystal drop flower earrings, and she stood tall in Christian Louboutin pumps with a graffiti print. Though she was surrounded by incredibly stylish celebrities like Rihanna, who eventually took the stage in a leather Fenty outfit, and Lizzo, Yara's outfit seemed to be the most wearable. In fact, I can imagine myself in this skirt on a hot Summer night, coordinated with a white ribbed tank top and a pair of strappy sandals.

If you like the appeal of a mermaid skirt like I do, I found plenty of options at a range of price points that remind me of my favorite mystical creature. Some are minis, some are midis, some have extended sashes, and some are cut from denim. Whichever one you choose, I suggest keeping things playful like Yara did and accessorizing with fun shoes and jewelry so that you sparkle a little bit brighter.
