How Prince Philip and Sarah Ferguson's Rocky Relationship May Affect Eugenie's Wedding

Princess Eugenie will be tying the knot with Jack Brooksbank on Oct. 12. Even though this should be an exciting time for Eugenie, she might have to deal with some awkward family drama if her grandfather, Prince Philip, decides to go. The 97-year-old royal's attendance is reportedly still up in the air, and it seems like Eugenie's mom, Sarah Ferguson, may have something to do with it.

According to Town & Country, Philip "is so estranged from Fergie," and they've allegedly had a rocky relationship ever since she and Prince Andrew separated in 1992. Following Sarah and Andrew's split, photographs surfaced of the Duchess of York with her toes in the mouth of Texas businessman John Bryan. The shots, of course, caused a huge scandal for the royal family, and Princess Margaret reportedly even wrote Sarah a letter, saying, "You have done more to bring shame on the family than could ever have been imagined." In 2000, Sarah caused another scandal when she offered an undercover reporter access to Andrew for £500,000.

Despite the fact that Sarah and Andrew have remained close friends, it's been reported that Philip still holds a grudge against Sarah and has vowed never to be in the same room with her again. Sarah wasn't even invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding in 2011. "It was so difficult because I wanted to be there with my girls and to be getting them dressed and to go as a family," Sarah previously told Oprah. "It was so hard because the last bride up that aisle was me." However, she did attend Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding earlier this year, but she was seated toward the back of the church. So, will Philip and Sarah be able to put their differences aside for the sake of Eugenie? Only time will tell.
