What I'm Listening to This Week: Mostly Mac Miller

When Mac Miller's family revealed that the rapper's posthumous album, Circles would be released this month, I knew I would be in for an emotional rollercoaster. As predicted, in this edition What I'm Listening to This Week I've been spinning Circles nonstop and experiencing everything that would come along with such a decision. I'm also listening to new music from Joël and newcomer Lauren Sanderson, and genuinely enjoying Selena Gomez's Rare (despite having no plans to). Here's what you should slam the play button on this week and why.

Rare by Selena Gomez

Rare by Selena Gomez

Candidly, I didn't have high expectations for Rare. This is not because I don't believe in Selena's talent and power, but because I haven't connected very strongly with any of her previous projects. Rare ended up being a really enjoyable listen, especially tracks like "Ring," "Vulnerable," and the single "Look at Her Now."

Just as I was able to turn things around and hop on the Jonas Brothers train last year, I've made the decision to stan Selena Gomez and her third studio album until further notice.

Standout tracks: "Crowded Room" feat. 6lack and "A Sweeter Place" feat. Kid Cudi

"To The People I Hurt" by Lauren Sanderson

Indiana native Lauren Sanderson is definitely one to watch, especially if you're a fan of alt hip-pop (as I am). Her recent single is a stripped-down admission of vulnerability and regret, not to mention an emotional plea for forgiveness.

"So Blue" by Joël

I've written here before about Toronto singer Joël and am thrilled that he's released a brooding new single just in time for my next depressive episode!

Circles by Mac Miller

Circles by Mac Miller

Not to be dramatic, but Mac Miller's posthumous album is a masterpiece from start to finish. While an amazing work of art, Circles can also be quite heartbreaking to listen to, especially tracks like "Complicated," "That's on Me" and the devastingly hopeful lead single "Good News," on which the late rapper croons that there's "a whole lot there there for me waiting."

Standout track: "Blue World"
