Brad Pitt Filmed Scenes For New Formula 1 Film at Silverstone: "I'm a Little Giddy Right Now"

Silverstone was not only the location for the British Grand Prix across the July 8-9 weekend, but it also became a film set. Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, the stars of Apple's untitled Formula 1 racing movie, took to the track to film some scenes in the most authentic way possible. They joined fellow drivers on the grid for the National Anthem dressed in white overalls for the fictional APX GP team. Pitt was also spotted driving a modified F2 car, along with stunt drivers, during the quiet slots on the Silverstone schedule.

"I'm a little giddy right now, I've got to say," Pitt told Sky Sports. "It's great to be here. Having such a laugh, time of my life." Pitt added, "Everyone's been really cool with us. All the teams have opened their doors for us."

On April 7, Deadline reported Idris landed the coveted role after multiple auditions and driving tests. The movie will be helmed by "Top Gun: Maverick" director Joseph Kosinski, who favors naturalistic effects, hence the need for a star who is good behind the wheel.

The movie doesn't have a title yet, but there are plenty of reasons fans should be excited about the project. In addition to Idris's casting, the film also serves as a reunion for the creative team behind the 2022 blockbuster "Top Gun: Maverick." Not only is Kosinski directing, but Jerry Bruckheimer is producing the film, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, Ehren Kruger, one of the writers behind the "Top Gun" sequel, is penning the script.

Given what a massive hit "Top Gun: Maverick" was, expectations for the F1 film are already high. While it's still early days, a few details about the Pitt-Idris movie have already emerged. Read on for everything you need to know about Apple's upcoming F1 movie.

Apple's F1 Movie Cast

Pitt was the first actor signed for the film. He's joined by Idris, whose work as the lead actor on FX's "Snowfall" has earned him critical acclaim and two NAACP Image Award nominations. Idris has also appeared in episodes of "Swarm" and "Black Mirror."

Pitt also revealed to Sky Sports that "The Little Mermaid" star Javier Bardem has joined the project, playing the part of the F1 team owner. No other stars have been announced at this stage, but given Kosinski's desire to employ actors who are proficient behind the wheel, racing fans can count on the director rounding out the cast with those who aren't afraid to make the driving scenes look every bit as authentic as the flying scenes in the "Top Gun" sequel.

Are There Any Real F1 Drivers Involved in the Movie?

Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time Formula 1 champ, is producing the film under his Dawn Apollo banner.

Apple's Untitled Formula 1 Movie Plot

Pitt is set to star as a retired race-car driver who wants one more shot at winning it all. He sees his chance in the young driver played by Idris, whom Pitt's character comes out of retirement to mentor. Pitt's character will also assume the role of Idris's character's partner in a bid to become a Formula 1 champion.

Apple's Formula 1 Movie Release Date

According to THR, Apple plans to give the movie a cinematic release, but it will land on the streamer at some point as well.
