JT Brings Sexy Back

JT is in Paris promoting his new "club funk" sound. He did an interview with MTV to discuss the direction of his new album. What I like about JT (besides the fact that I am a sucker for a POP star) is that he really seems to take his career seriously. He is always passionate about whatever it is he is working on. We always look forward to anything JT may be doing in the future, including marrying Cameron. MTV reports:

Timberlake modeled himself after David Bowie and Prince, and describes "SexyBack" as Bowie and David Byrne covering James Brown's "Sex Machine." "That's the closest I could come," he said. "That's all of my influences for that song."

"SexyBack" doesn't qualify as rock or straight funk — and for now, Timberlake's happy with the description "club funk."

"I like that," he said. "Anything that I do and anything Timbaland does is going to be funky. That's a rule of thumb. And that's how the song got started, going more dance rock, club funk. There are people out there pushing the boundaries of music; Gnarls Barkley, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, they always push themselves. The most you can hope for is music that pushes your sound as much as they push theirs."

He could not be more right about The Red hot Chili Peppers. Their latest album is surprisingly amazing. Lots more images of JT putting on a show so read more

I just listened to this song on AOL music. I like that he's not afraid to experiment with his sound and that this album won't be just like the first (although I love Justified). This is the kind of song I can see my friends and I dancing to when we're out, or rocking out to with the top down on a breezy day ♥

He was all right-ish (appearance-wise) when he'd just jumped fresh out of the N*Sync water and landed on solo terrain but over time, have no idea what happened but he skanked himself up seriously.

I don't like his new song either. Doesn't float my boat; it's nothing special. However, I'm dreading more the inevitable saturation of his face on everything and anything once Sexyback's in its promo/release period. Think I'll abstain from TV and radio for a while.

Eh, I need "club funk" songs like his for when I go dancing...I don't think he sucks, he's not bad. I prefer his music over that sh*t Nick Lachey sings...bleech!

Sometimes, it's okay to like cheesy pop music...I like his older stuff better, but again, I like songs that get me in the mood to dance!

I love good pop music as much as the next person, but this song did absolutely nothing for me. Maybe it'll grow on me after a while, but for now, not a fan.

That pisses me off, How can Justin compare himself to Bowie or Prince?! Their names shouldn't be in the same paragraph.

Being influenced by someone and comparing yourself to them is a big difference... I think he's saying his sound is influenced by them which isn't bad. People are influenced by others all the time.

Anyway... I like Justin, the song is... different

I can't believe how little this guy affects me. I don't love him or hate him. I just feel a big fat nothing, oh and his song stinks too.

Hmm, never thought I'd be saying this about a Backseat Boy (yes, I realize I said 'Backseat'; that's my nickname for them) but he looks almost mature in those pics. But David Bowie he is NOT. Bowie is an icon. Timberlake is a wannabe.

toronado--haha...he was not a ever a backseat boy---although, that's really funny. he was in nstync (couldn't help myself now that i know you dig the play-on-words). haven't heard the new song, and i was embarrassed to admit this for a while, but i kinda like him for some reason. maybe cause he's effing hot, i dunno? but his music makes me wanna dance, too?

Jinx, maybe not JT wasn't comparing himself to Bowie as much as he was just trying to use the same vibe that they use/bring. I loved Justified, and I cannot wait to here the whole new album, and SexyBack is growing on me, for sure!

He certainly is nice to look at, but maybe not so nice to listen to.

Except for a few songs. I have to get up and start dancing if I hear 'Rock Your Body' or 'Senorita.'

I like the song and I like what Justin has to say. he's right--who wants to hear the same old artist doing the same old thing year after year? EVOLVE, baby.I like him pushing the envelope and I love Timbaland when he works with Missy Elliot as well.

It's nice to see that Justin respects serious artists like Prince, the Chili Peppers, etc.. yet still finds a way to make a song his own. In this world of marginally talented, marginally intelligent artists I'm glad there are a few who seem to be serious about what they're trying to do. Bravo.

I will always always always love JTimbs. I was such an *NSYNC fanatic when I was younger. I practically bled Justin, JC, Joey, Lance, and Chris.

I'm so glad JT is still keepin it real.

I commend JT for having taken control of his destiny/music. He could not have picked better music icons to try to learn from. Prince and Bowie music has always been evolving and uniquely theirs. As has Madonna. It is in part why their careers have had logevity.

Regardless what some might think of Cameron, I thinks she has been good for JT as it has exposed him to more of the world than just the life of a pop star. I have to think that had he stayed with Brittney he would not have developed the musical and worldly soophistication that he has acquired since he went solo.

Poor Britney, I wonder if she has any regrets?
