Britney's Been Restrained and Exploited

After Britney's breakdown last week, we can't really say that we're surprised to see that she's the unfortunate cover girl of this week's magazines, covering everything from her mental illness to her children to suicide watch. The latest news on Brit is that the LAPD filed a five-day restraining order against Britney last week to keep her kids safe. Even though the order ends today, Britney still won't have any custody of the kids until the next hearing on Monday.

As for the whole Dr. Phil situation, the Spears family sent a representative to the Today Show this morning to publicly accuse Dr. Phil of violating their trust by making public statements and exploiting Britney. We still can't figure out why they ever trusted him in the first place.

To check out the video of the family's rep saying how much Dr. Phil sucks, just read more

i actually want to say poor britney. with all this negative press - it's no wonder that she'll freak out and go a little crazy. I saw the piece this AM about how her parents were really FUMED at Dr. Phil - and it's like this roller coaster just doesn't stop. i hope that things turn around for her....i really do.

What do you know, I agree with her family for once. But yeah - why on earth did you ask for his input in the first place? Oh yeah. PUBLICITY.

    The whole family's media-happy.

I'm not a fan of Dr Phil, but I think he is suddenly becoming a scapegoat for the family and the rest of the world. He is a public figure so what did the family think when they asked him for help? everyone knows he's a big mouth. Although I don't think any of the statements he made were that revealing, not like he let us in on some big secret or something... we all knew Britney is in desperate need of help. I'm not defending everything he did, but I partly feel bad for him because he was asked to come into this by her family. There is no perfect way to handle such a delicate situation.

Unfortunate cover girl? I think she'd have it no other way. On People's site they have a who is #1 right now and Britney was falling low on that list so she decided to one up her sister and get back the spotlight. It worked and everyone fell for it once again.

And why did the parents turn to Dr. Phil in the first place? Just because your friends with his wife? Wouldn't you get a licensed professional to attempt to help your daughter?

"Wouldn't you get a licensed professional to attempt to help your daughter?"

Now what would be the point of that? Then they'd keep their patient records confidential, actually try to treat the person, etc.

I truly wish the best for her too ilanac13 Sad
Things are getting worse every day, and I know she should be responsible for her actions, but I'm not sure if I can you blame a girl whose been observed every min. of her life.
I wouldnt mind her disappearing from all the gossip magazines for a while, if it were to help her get any better.

"...I think he is suddenly becoming a scapegoat for the family and the rest of the world."

romaniagrl - I think you hit it right on the head! Come on, everyone was pissed at the parents for thinking about doing a show and for asking him to go see her. Now they just look like they wanted to get help for their daughter and dr phil took advantage of them!

    Damage control.

I don't know about scapegoat for the rest of the world - people are pretty evenly seeing the family's attention-whoring as well.

Scapegoat for the family, yeah. But then again, if he had any common sense, he would've either refused the offer or not given any public statements.

i think that of course it's obvious that she's having a bad time, but the press pic up on something that is probably not so bad and turn it in to suicide watch and bad mothering, if she was on suicide watch then she wouldn't of been let out of hospital as early as she was, and they cant judge her mothering skills when the tabloids don't live with her, i know people have sold stories about how bad a mum she is but if they ranted on about her being a good mum it wouldn't exactly sell. i think its really really terrible how people feed off others misery and how we all just find it acceptable that papers ruin others or make those people's lives worse. i dont think thats entertainment.

Ya know, they asked him to go see her...maybe he shouldn't have said anything publicly but all his did is say what all of us know...she needs help!

I agree, I think he is become the scapegoat to get some of the limelight off of the family.

Oh and if they wanted something so private, why did they ask Dr. Phil? Why not a private practice doctor that would respect the privacy of the family? Because they LOVE the attention! They got what they deserve going to him. Idiots!

OK, so they made a mistake going to Phil for help. I can understand why they made that mistake. I think they are just so desperate for someone to get through to Britney and because Lynn has always had a great relationship with Phil they didn't think he would exploit the situation!

I think that if "Dr" Phil wants to wear the title of doctor then the Spears family should sue him for breaching the federal HIPAA laws that require doctors and medical facilities from releasing ANY information regarding patients. Under federal HIPAA laws, a medical facility and doctors cannot even release information that a particular patient has even been treated! "Doctor" Phil was grandstanding. If he had any real concern for anyone but his own self promotion, he would have kept any comments about Britney strictly between him and her--not even sharing any details with family. That's what a REAL doctor would do. I hope Britney sues his sorry backside.

I hope this nonstop Britney coverage from all aspects of media/paparazzi will have a severe backlash from the public. For God's sake, she needs to be left alone. She's certainly no Princess Di, but I think at the rate this is all going... she might have the same fate.

Freegrace - Diana ran from the paparazzi....Britney dates them. I'm afraid she is going to be more like Anna Nicole Smith if she doesn't get some help.

And Diana's driver was legally drunk and drugged.

I have no doubt at this point that the ending of this will not be therapy, or help, or getting out of the limelight. I agree that the Anna Nicole comparison is most likely.

Now don't go saying I think she deserves to die.

I did a comparison, and the kid on OK cover just does not look like SP, the nose is all different.
Because Dr. Phil is not a licensed healthcare provider, he cannot be sued for malpractice.

Dr.Phil is a licenced professional, he is well known for being able to help people. i think he got carried away by the fact that a show about Britney , having actually talked to her, would be a real coo!! and a very much viewed show!! he stepped over the line , realized his mistake , and cancelled the show. I will be praying for brit and her family in these trying times.

I think the only way Britney will get better is by going away and staying away for a long time. She's so far gone... it's so sad. They say she has bi-polar and I believe it. My mom has it and they just get sucked into a downward spiral and it's hard to get out of it.
Even if she brought it on herself, I can't help but feel sorry for Britney because nobody deserves to be that miserable.

Dr. Phil has a B.A. from Midwestern State University, an M.A. and Ph.D in clinical Phychology from North Texas State Un. with a dual area of emphasis in clinical and behavioral medicine. I think that qualifies him to talk to britney thanks LAUREN

Britney is loving all this attention, unfortunately it's what she lives for!

I blame Dr. Phil and the parents. I mean come on, why even bother calling him in? they should have realized it was only going to make a mess of things and it did. They have no clue whatsoever about keeping things private. And as far as Dr. Phil goes, he's absurd and look at all the press he's received about this - he's as happy as a pig in slop over this coverage.

Murph, that makes him a PhD. It does not make him a licensed therapist. You have to actually hold a license to be considered a licensed therapist, and Dr Phil does not. He was stripped of his original license, never had it reinstated, and never applied for licensing in the state of California.

Like I said, "professional" is up for debate. But it's a plain old fact that he is not licensed.
