Mary-Kate Sticks With Her Fur

Methinks those rumors about the Olsens trying to patch things up with PETA must be false, because Mary-Kate was typically decked out in fur ducking out of a restaurant in NYC over the weekend. Clearly it was not an occasion that merited hair washing. She was also rocking her new favorite sunglasses and various other parts to create an all-around bizarre ensemble. At this point she wouldn't really be MK without all this nonsense, right?

While I'm definitely disgusted by PETA's actions towards the MK and Ashley, I become so disturbed by people who wear fur. It's like this: on one hand, I'm glad she's not letting PETA get to her but, on the other hand, I am not fond of anyone wearing fur so ostentatiously like that. Blah.

Pinkflats-there are other animal rights groups out there - completely unrelated to PeTA - heck your local SPCA and local vets can refer you to them.

As far as, MK will she's got moxie. I suspect she could win a fist fight with some other larger mindless celebs.

thanks for the info wackdoodle. i know that there are other animal rights org. out there but with the way PETA conducts their marketing/publicity i just get put off by them, which then leads me to be putt of by animal rights org. in general.

Pinkflats, I was going to suggest your local ASPCA or Humane Society.

PS: As I wrote under the photo earlier today, I can make out the face of a coyote on that jacket...and I am definitely disgusted by it.

"I can make out the face of a coyote on that jacket..." ewww thanks for pointing that out, tiabia, because now i can, too, see it.

the thing is i know that there are people, especially in the other parts of the world that are not as privileged or rich as the US, need to kill animals so to feed their families or make a living off it, but i feel like any animal rights organization don't support that idea or don't even want to consider that there are people who have to raise cows and pigs and then kill them so to sell it to the meat market to make a living. these animal rights organization want people to conform to their ways even though some can't because of other reasons like finance or it's their culture. AND that's WHY i can't seem to support animal rights organizations at all. i feel like the mission of these organization are insensitive to other people's needs or other people's culture.

this coming from someone who was born and raised in a third world country who have many times seen what i mentioned above, so don't judge.

I thought I was imagining a face on that there fur - I have honestly never been able to see the shark in those hidden image photos- but uggh that turns my stomach. Mayhaps - little MK made the coat herself like Cruella DeVille?

The Humane Society doesn't judge on the slaughtering of animals, just on the methods done. I actually remember when I was younger and just growing an interest in animal rights, I picked up a PETA (ugh) pamphlet, and one of the "moving" stories (I can't remember word for word) was of a cow that was somewhere on the side of the road. The long and short of the story was that a farmer wanted to slaughter the cow...which really from the description was going to have a horrendous quality of life if it had remained living...wanted to slaughter the cow for reasons of needing and or wanting food, a humane society officer came to MAKE SURE the animal was slaughtered in a humane way...that was PETAs way of "slandering" The Humane Society!!!

"that was PETAs way of "slandering" The Humane Society!!!" ack i sooo hate PETA (if you haven't noticed yet lol). so many things they do put a bad name to the animal rights movement.

thanks you so much for the info, tia. i'm glad to hear that an animal rights org. doesn't judge on the slaughtering if done ethically. that was one of my issue with animal rights org and i have always felt that my opinion was the unpopular one.

You don't need to give a crap about PETA to have your own opinions on fur. If you can think for yourself, it shouldn't matter what PETA has to say about wearing fur. I loved the Olsens, but I am really over the fur thing. I just look at her and see my bunnies.

My issue with PeTa is more Ingrid Newkirk is a walking contradiction-she deplores animals in many speeches has said so- but then she says she's a "media wh*re" her words - huh?

Her statement that PeTA “Probably everything we do is a publicity stunt ... we are not here to gather members, to please, to placate, to make friends. We're here to hold the radical line.” from USA Today in 1991.

Most offensively her statement to Vogue is 1989 -
“Even if animal tests produced a cure for AIDS, we’d be against it.”

However, her second in command is a insulin-dependent diabetic who uses bovine-insulin and says that it's ok because she's not really a hypocrite because she's an important person in the world.

Pinkflats---um, aren't the Olsens American and rich? Or is it your opinion that because some people in some places of the world depend on raising livestock that the Olsens should also wear fur? Not to mention that the people you are talking about in third world countries are not furriers, but raise livestock for food consumption, so I don't get what that has to do with wearing fur. I just don't think the Olsens share your third world country experiences.

In addition, you can find this info on wikipedia about meat consumption:

"According to the WorldWatch Institute, "Massive reductions in meat consumption in industrial nations will ease their health care burden while improving public health; declining livestock herds will take pressure off rangelands and grainlands, allowing the agricultural resource base to rejuvenate. As populations grow, lowering meat consumption worldwide will allow more efficient use of declining per capita land and water resources, while at the same time making grain more affordable to the world's chronically hungry."[80] Economic vegetarians also may include people from third world countries who follow a de facto vegetarian diet due to the high price of meat."

Ingrid Newkirk does not do good things for animal rights because she causes so much trouble. She puts animal rights above human rights which is so unneccessary and something most people who care about animal rights (including me) just absolutely don't do. I don't hate on PETA in general because I know there are some members there trying to do good things...but for every good PETA member there is a Bruce Friedrich or an Ingrid Newkirk and they are the ones in charge! That being said...even if I don't agree with a lot of what PETA does and says I would not reject being a vegetarian or not wearing fur and leather just because PETA endorses it!

wackdoodle those are crazy statements made by her.

and i know i don't have to care about what PETA says to make my own opinion. it's just that i think they are the most visible animal rights organization out there that they almost become synonymous with animal rights organization. but whatever....

snowbunny not to be rude, i never said anything about supporting fur, but i sure hope that you read my comments and the reason why i brought up the whole livestock thing. i was just having thoughtful conversation with other sugar members.

Blech. She's gross and so is her jacket. But in her defense, how do we know it's not faux?

Anyway, I support most animal rights groups, from PETA to the Humane society to my local animal shelters. They may use different strategies, but the core value is to treat animals with kindness and respect.

I guess I sort of assumed that because she was wearing a fur jacket, that the comments about animal rights were about wearing fur! I didn't think that every post where there is an animal rights issue is going to be about whether or not PETA and other animal rights groups are crazy...but I guess that is just what PETA has done for animal rights, hmm.

Yeah, maybe the jacket is faux....but I kind of doubt the Olsens wear faux fur. I have some faux leather stuff (I knnooow bad for the environment!) and every time I wear it or carry it my boyfriend is just like..."it's still sending a bad message if you WANT people to think it's leather!" Eye-wink

Ugly jacket (real or not). Doesn't look good with the green underneath. I'm interested in what that would look like without the jacket though.
