Matt Damon Wants The Bush Girls to go to War

It seems as if Matt and Angelina are opening up a lot these days while promoting their new movie. While Angie is finally telling us about loving Brad, Matt is getting quite political. I know some of you are over my Matt obsession but whenever I see his movies or read his interviews I just end up liking him more. Matt stopped by MSNBC’s Hardball with Robert De Niro in an interview to air tonight. He told the audience that he thinks that President Bush's daughters should go to war. The show doesn't air until tonight but the clip is already raising a few eyebrows. See for yourself.

Matt Damon is SO ignorant. I am sure the Bush girls would go to war , if they were in the Armed Forces. Does he even THINK before he speaks??? He is as stupid as he was portrayed on Team America.

Matt: Just shut up and continue with your mediocre acting.

I am sure the Bush twins have plans to follow in their father's footsteps by joining the Texas Air National Guard and hardly show up since it will interfere with their drinking and cocaine addictions. Then have all records exsponged and claim they served their country when actually it was just a photo op and great thing to mention later when running for office.. Just like dear old Dad.

He's 'of age' so maybe he needs to go too? Seriously, his statement is just meant to cause an uproar.

I think his statement is along the general lines of..if Bush beleives so much in this war..is he willing to put his daughters out there to fight it? Are the rich and elite expected to fight as well? And if recruiters keep hurting then we may see a draft go back into place.

Come on I agree, do you think if all the people making our laws had to send their kids to Irag they would be so quick to start a war? My husband is in the military and yes he made that choice to serve his country , but most people serving next to him came from low income familys growing up and had little choices to get out of the poverty that they were in. So the military was a good choice for them. So why do all of congress care who dies for there cause? There all poor expendable kids..... Not the rich kids of senators

    Actually tifygodess24...

I don't think Bush would be so gung-ho for war if his kids had to participate in it!!!

Its a shame that they target low-income families...that is horrible.

Ima & Tify - You're both absolutely right and I agree with both of you, but I think that it's a dumb statement for someone like Matt Damon to make due to the fact that he's an actor earning millions of dollars to make movies. It puts him in the same category as the politicians rich offspring.

Trixie I totally agree, the only thing that I appreciate is when the stupid celebs open there mouth it brings the subject up for everyone to have a discussion. I dont believe any celeb would ever sign the dotted line to go to war themselves, it easier to sit in the warm "mc-mansions" and comment than to do anything about it

Even more, not only Bush's daughters need to go, daughters and sons from all our senators need to be in Irak!

Who are we sending to fight? Immigrants, poor people based on lies?

Tify - It irritates me to no end when a celeb comes out with something like this because I feel like they're talking out their ass. It is good that it makes people think and talk about issues like the war etc, but I just feel like the celeb in question is being somewhat of a hypocrite.

Everybody should go to war, and all these presidents and senators who've supported the war in Iraq when it's clear to even the local village idiot that they are getting their a$$es served bak to them on a plate, their children should be in the frontline facing the horrors everyone over there faces.

Ok. Here is what I think. One, women shouldn't be allowed to go to war. I can tell you right now I am unable to emotionally handle hurting someone on purpose...not murdering, but defending myself. I have a feeling I am not the only one. I am also emotionally unstable sometimes and think with my heart not my head sometimes. All women are equipped to function that way. Second, why not have everyone serve a term in the military like brittain...i.e. Prince Harry is, and you know very well he won't get stationed anywhere there is actually fighting...it could be the same here only women do non combat roles. If that is old fashioned so be it, but I have believed this my whole like and don't think my belief is a demeaning one.

The bottom line of what Matt meant to say (I think)is that a Ms_Magnificent1 said, neither Bush or the senator or willing to pun in risk their kids, then why pun in risk other kids???

No one has to go, this bullsh*t has to end up NOW!

LOL, he's a moron to say that. Our country is VOLUNTEER based. It is a great insult to MANY soldiers who choose to serve, regardless of income to even say stuff like this. And to rip on the services who don't necessarily fight on the front is down right stupid. I'll let my cousin who had his ear ripped off in an accident defending the borders here at home know that there are stupid people out there that think his branch he serves in is considered a mockery by some of you.

And just curious? Where were these celebs and everyone's rejection when Clinton went to Bosnia? Oh, I forgot, they were supporting it.

Just one more actor to add to the list of crap I refuse to watch. Just shut up and act.

You are right Deba, no one has to go...it is a VOLUNTEER MILITARY AND THE PEOPLE WHO ARE THERE CHOSE TO JOIN. End of story. everyone in this country has the right to say "Yes I will join the military and fight when I cam called, or no, I don't think I will do that, I want to work somewhere else.

I know that is rough, but it is true. everyone there signed up to be there, by choice. It's like getting a credit card; ou voluntarily sign up to receive one, but if you don't read the fine print before you sign your name you are still subject to every fee, percentage raise hike, and finance charge they stick on your account...(incase you want to bring up the comeback that people joined to get the school money and didn't want to fight)

Cravinsugar...re your mentioning everyone serving at one point. Exactly. Many don't realize this, but everyone in this country used to have to put in at least 2 years here. Can you imagine what two years of service would do for the maturity of the youth these days? I am so glad I'm not around 18-19 right now in the dating world...talk about wimpy losers.

Women should be eligible for everything EXCEPT combat. Clinton reversed that. One of the main reasons for this, if anyone studies history of the military, a captured female soldier is worth a lot more. Not to mention, additional facilities and concessions have to be made to accomodate them. I tried to sign up for this because I wanted to fly and had this explained to me in detail back in the 80s.

No you got me wrong though, no one has to go because this war has to END NOW... this war is just about political and economical interests, not the "Democracy" idea.

And the people that volunteered did it on promises of better lifes... and that is not fair.

Deba, do you know anyone over there who serves and also speaks Arabic? Do you know any Iraqis? Furthermore, have any of you ever been to the Middle East?

I ask these things, because unfortunately, if I couldn't answer yes to those three things, I would tend to agree with most of you if all I had to go one was the news. Half the people reporting the news can't say yes to even two of the above questions.

The U.S. doesn't have a draft; it's an individuals' choice to serve, and they serve proudly knowing the threats directed towards our Nation. The Democrats are the people trying to reinstate the draft...namely Charles B. Rangle. The education level of the people serving in the Armed Forces is higher than, the average American. They also make more money than, the average American. There is no way to dispute it's an all volunteer force, currently. Matt Damon doesn’t sound informed at all, in my opinion.
