Are You Surprised by the Ellen Allegations?

A writer who worked with Ellen DeGeneres on her sitcom Ellen says he's not surprised that Ellen went back to work on her talk show despite the strike because she doesn't actually show her writing staff the respect they deserve. Among other complaints, he claims that she accused her staff of being unfunny when jokes flopped and stole their lines for her own stand up routine. We want to know — are you surprised by these allegations?

A good friend worked with Ellen not too long ago and said that while she CAN be nice, she's quite a diva off camera. This was more than one occasion so I can't say she was having an off day. I love Ellen but the whole dog incident and her diva attitude does throw me off a bit.

I think Ellen is being responsible first to her her audience because without her audience she'd truly have nothing. The other actor who are being posers and popping up on the WGA picket line should remember that...yes the writers need their support but the auduence will remember their fakeness.

I thought Rosie O'Donnell was a sweet, nice person until she came on the View and showed her true colors. Martha Stewart seemed nice, charming woman, but I read that she rules with an iron fist. Paris Hilton shows her sweet side to the paparazzi, but on some videos with her in it she is a racist bigot. So I know not to believe everything I read, but if I see it (video) in enough sources, I believe it to be true. If I saw video of her former writers talking smack, I'll believe it to be true.

On camera, everyone wants to show their best side, behind closed doors is always a different story. And of course Ellen will probably deny it so she saves her self from falling grace. I don't believe this applies to everyone and I am just putting this in simple terms. Anyway, celeb gossip is entertaining to read.

Anyone who would cross a picket line and threaten the jobs of thousands of writers clearly isn't respectful of their work.

She seems so genuine, but I mean, you can never tell what a person is like, especially if you're only seeing them on television or in magazines. I mean, it's Ellen's business to be a certain way. You've got to smile and pretend to be happy and funny and great for the cameras, but who knows what the person's actually like when the camera is turned off?

Oh yeah, and the fact that she'd cross the picket line of her own writers is pretty low.

A few weeks back I might have thought this was rubbish, but like some other commenters said, after the whole Iggygate thing I'm not too sure what to make of Ellen. Something tells me you don't get to where she's at by being all sweetness and light.

Well I'm shocked but I believe it, she seems so sweet and funny and those allegations are so harsh. I guess nobody shows their true colors on camera. Too bad.

There's always been something about Ellen that kind of rubbed me the wrong way. After the whole Iggy thing, I began to dislike her. I thought it was unfair of her to use her show to slam a woman who had no way to defend herself, who rescues and finds homes for animals for a living. After all, she did break the rules and give away the dog without notifying the agency. And then it turns out that she's done this multiple times before. Also, the way her producers left a threatening message on the woman's answering machine, and the way Ellen told the little girl "You WILL get your dog back," knowing that she has money and power on her side, it really turned me off. And then crossing the picket line to do her show I think is pretty low, and does NOT show respect for her writers, even though she claimed to be on their side. So BOO to Ellen! She needs to be knocked off her power-high pedestal.

I work in the Entertainment industry, and I can tell you first hand that most of the people are arrogant, self serving, pompous, over paid, ass ****. They put on their best faces for the camera, and that is it. Most of what you read about people's personalities are true. Just like Jen Lopez is a B*tch, Ellen is too. I can guarantee it. Rumours usually stem from truth.

I have to agree with Charb. My whole feeling about Ellen has changed and it started with the Iggy incident. Had that never happened, I probably would've found this new story incredibly hard to believe.

I hope it's not true--- but how can you really know unless you experienced it firsthand. I think she's hilarious and enjoy her and her show when I'm able to catch it.

I changed my mind a little since the Iggy episode. The fact that she couldn't see that she was using her celebrity to get the dog back to those people was a little strange to me and shows that she might not be as down to earth as she seems.

That being said I don't think it's horrible for her to do her job. Johnny Carson and Letterman both made the decision to carry on their shows as well during a writer's strike years back. Ellen is capable of writing, I would think.

I believe it. Totally. I ran into Ellen on the street once in Austin, TX. I didn't even say anything to her , just kind of stood there surprised for a second and she totally huffed and walked off. It was really snobby and annoying.

I totally believe it. Think of the scene she made about the dog, it just showed the entitlement she believes she deserves. She may be funny & goofy but you know she has issues, lots of comedians do(not all i know) but they do. Rosie was once the queen of nice & now GOD help anyone who walks by her.

I wish you offered the option of saying that I think Ellen is pretty fake without including most people in show biz.

While there are a lot of fake people in showbiz, there are decent ones as well.

I find it completely believable. I've never liked Ellen or her show and I think comment #7 put things in good perspective. But then again, I never liked Rosie or thought she was great b/4 the View. Anyone who can make Whoopi look like a breath of fresh air is pretty amazingly awful.

But for real, if Ellen wants to write to keep her show going that's fine, but if it hurts her writers that's not really cool. I'd totally believe the 'diva' stuff. Celebs are totally capable of acting one way for the general public and then showing another side when the cameras aren't rolling.

crossing a picket line doesn't threaten anyone's job when you work there. it helps you keep your own job.

I think that it is probably a bit of all of the above. If the jokes were constantly falling then I would be annoyed with the writer's too... As to the crossing the picket line- she is not doing her monologue which is the one section of her show which uses writers. The rest of her show is interviews and the like. She is not using scabs to write her monologue so she is supporting her writers. She has a responsibility to do her job as she is contracted to do. She is also responsible to the rest of her crew. Not that I don't support the writer's, I do, I just also know that they are not the only ones being hurt by this strike. There are lay people who are being put out of work through no fault of their own. The same thing happened during the actor's strike a couple of years ago. Cameramen, gaffers, stylists, hair & makeup artists, costumers, set designers, sound techs, etc... all of these people have families to feed too.

Heck, the WRITERS are striking.. that doesn't mean that she has to in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I adore watching all the celebs who are standing beside their writers, but if Ellen's attitude is more of 'the show must go on', then I think that's perfectly respectable too.

This strike sucks.. come guys settle your arguments, we need are TV!!! WE NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED IT!!!!

    hehe

I think that anyone who is ambitious and successful, they will be difficult to deal with and very demanding. And that goes for any business industry.

I think that in Ellen's case, it's her name and persona leading the show and well... no one said she has to be nice to make a show work; work is work right?

So all that to say that I believe the rumors might be true but really,
