Did Letterman Go Too Far With The Paris/Jail Jokes?

Paris Hilton visited the Late Show With David Letterman on Friday night and the interview didn't go as planned for the heiress. She was there to promote her new fragrance Can Can and talk about Repo! The Genetic Opera, but Dave just wanted to ask about jail. Paris stayed good natured even though she very clearly wanted to change the subject. She eventually pouted until she got her way, but not before Dave got in a few good jabs. Watch it below and let us know — do you think Letterman crossed the line with Paris?

Seriously, as a celebrity she should be expecting those types of questions. I hated how she pulled out her little girl voice and whined about it. She's what, 26 years old? I know it was a long time ago, but this isn't the first time she's proved that she can't handle poking fun at herself... which makes me sad. Shocked(

I hate myself for saying this but when we talk about Paris Hilton I think you can't go too far. Did she really go there expecting that he wouldn't ask about it? Come on.

I seriously don't think she learned anything from her jail experience. They should have left her in for longer.

Her hair looked awful.. and her face was wonky. She basically looked like crap. She could have at least gotten points for an attitude adjustment but she failed in that category too! I thought Dave was a jerk though.

well I think she was on there to promote these other things, and then he started swinging shots at her. However, she did take it the best she could, and acted polite, I would have been pissed.

I loved every second of it and watched it twice. Dave did great, besides what did she think the opening questions were going to be.

They always ask what's going on with them before they get into why the person is actually on the show.

Thank God for David Letterman!!! I love Dave!

Don't feel bad for Paris.. she has been on his show before and anyone who has knows that Dave can turn on you in a blink and you had better be game for it.

He will always be my King of Late Night (and extra bonus points for making Cindy Crawford actually cry..that was the all time best!! Close second, embarrassing the hell out of Julia Roberts after the Benjamin Bratt break up..this comes in third).

I think ANYBODY would have gotten annoyed at Letterman because he's such a boring dork. I dont get Lettermans humour and if I were Paris, I would have put some black wax in the middle of my teeth, pretending to have a huge, ugly gap like he does, then smile at him really big before saying: "Why do you want to know Dave? Are you worried about something?" HAHAHAHA. Now THAT would have been funny. I never watch him so thats why I didnt see this interview. Jay Leno is much, much, much funnier. Smiling

Maybe...I mean, you must expect the jokes to still continue, after all, you are PARIS HILTON. Anyways, I think it was funny to a certain extent but she did ask politely so he should have either stopped or toned it WAY down. At least David didn't go back to the Britney days, that would take up the whole show Sticking out tongue

wow how did he make cindy crawford cry? I love Jay leno he is funny. I dont like humor where people pick on other people. I liek ellen degeneres b/c she makes fun of every day things. Same with Sarah silverman she was mean ripping on Brits kids at mtv awards. She just sounds jealous, not saying she is jealous of britney, but she acts like she likes seeing brittney going down hill.

I think needs to stand up for herself a bit more, but she always tries to maintain her dignity. Personally, I am more like Nicole Ritchie. Anything anyone threw at me, I would throw something right back. Some things are humorous to a point, but enough is enough.

    p.s. LETTERMAN SUCKS!!!

I feel the same way watermeloncandy, after mtv movie awards she got enough sh*t for this jail thing. Personally, I think she was treated unfair compared to nicole. I would have been pissed if I was Paris.

I said no, maybe because I really don't like her Smiling What does she expect that everyone will feel so bad for her? So poor Paris had to be locked in some cold room by herself and have bad food--- there are lots of innocent children in this country who live like that every day. She should get over herself, Im sure it ws a bad experience but she should not complain she should thank her lucky stars for everything she has, because she has a lot more than she deserves!

thats true but people still have problems celebrity or not. Just b/c your rich doesn't mean your life is perfect. I think that people are a little mean to her, and she acts polite and sweet a/b it. Like if I was paris at the mtv movie awards I would have walked up there and punched her, that was ridiculous. I wouldn't be able to take the mean comments people say a/b her.

Well its not like its a mystery that when you become a celebrity you will have to take sh*t from people thats the trade of for all the perks, she became a celebrity for being rich and spoiled and now suddenly she wants to be taken seriously and wants empathy?

he definitely went overboard. lost alot of respect for him. such an idiot. making fun of people like that is just LOW.

nicole got it easy, lindsay got it easier.
i'm glad she didn't lose her cool in this interview.

i respect that she's been to jail to face it, treated unfairly or not, serving lesser days than the usual citizen or not, she did her time. she shouldn't be 'punished' cos she's paris hilton.

look at the other celebrities with DUIs and driving without a license? etc etc. most of them never did their time.

    Oh, Jesus.

    That made my day.

I kind of felt bad, but then I realized, "Hey! Maybe if you didn't do such stupid things, people won't make fun of you."

David Letterman just publicized what everyone does, anyway. He just had the balls to do it.

She should have been expecting it.

If I do something stupid, yeah, it's annoying that people are talking about it, but if I hadn't done it in the first place, there would have been nothing to talk about.

    Paris can suck it up.

Money doesn't buy happiness, but with all the money she has, she could be doing something more productive with her life. I have NO sympathy for selfish, narcissistic people.

Expect the drama you created to come back to you full kilter like a boomerang, and move on.

    It's karma, baby.

i don't see how people can feel bad about her in the interview. i mean it wasn't like dave was making fun of her for her wonky eye, he was just asking what she has done recently and seriously her jail time is possibly the most productive thing she HAS done recently.

That was great. Yes you have to feel a little sorry for her being on the spot, but it wasn't very long ago she was asking for money to do a similar interview. It's sort of comical now, she slaps her name on a perfume bottle ( what kind of name is Can Can for perfume ) and gets to promote it on national tv. Not every jailbird has an opportunity like that.
I never understood the idea behind celebrity fragrances.

also i think the reason why gets more sh*t than others is that she started all this "famous for being having a famous last name" sh*it. because of her popularity not we have people like kimberly stewart, kim kardishan, brody jenner and others capitalizing their famous last name.

yah but people rip them apart b/c its jealousy. I dont care you can deny it all you want but people are jealous. People love to see people have bad things happen to them b/c it makes them feel better. Idk i know paris has done some mess up sh*t, but I dont think its fair that she gets picked on as much as she does, (b/c she does get ridiculed a lot more then other celebs). Personally the jail stuff isn't even that funny, except people like to see people with good lives have problems.

Lol you really side with blondes don't you blondie3 ? The thing with alba is i guess that you don't see her clubbing and stuff. Paris and britney messed up and they kept messing up and all the while they stayed in the public eye they didnt want to change their ways for anyone so thats what they get. THey want the attention but only good attention and that is just not how it works. Like I said I don't like paris (or britney for that matter) so until she brings an entire country out of poverty I will not like her lol. I undertand where you're coming from because there are celebrities that don't get bad press but maybe should but thats how life in general works. If i was her on daves show I would be upset same with the silveman thing (although i thought it was funney except for the britney babies thing) but like I said it works like that in life too people say mean things and you have to get over it sometimes. (wow that IS long )
