At 8:30 this morning, Nicole Richie arrived, with Joel on her arm, at the Glendale Courthouse to cop a plea in her DUI case. After being inside less than half an hour, Nicole was sentenced to four days in jail (yes you read that right, plus she was credited for 6 hours already served), fined $2048 and has to attend a 21 day alcohol education course. Yup, that's all. She has until September 28th to report to serve her four days.

She's so deliberately wearing black and being against people in all black to avoid confirmation or denial of a baby bump.

Once again a damn celebrity getting special treatment. Had this been a normal person they would end up in jail alot longer. The reason all these starlets do this crap is because they know they are going to get away with it. I can only imagine how many times they have said to themselves...oh im not worried im famous.

Nicole, Paris and Lindsay are all very lucky that they didn't kill anyone. How would they then stay in the media eye and still have fans? Pathetic.

i give her credit for not making excuses for herself and lying like paris and lindsay! she told the police that she was on vicodan and smoked pot when she was driving, not like paris saying that she didnt know her license was suspended or lilo whose trying to blame everything on everyone else!!! i'm not saying what nicole did was right, but at least she isnt as deluded to think everyone else is just stupid enough to believe she's innocent!

TMZ makes it sound like Nicole is for sure pregnant. I thought it hadn't been confirmed yet?

I call effin' shenanigans on that sh*t! I can't believe it. If it was anyone else (not famous) in her shoes, they'd be SOL. Effin' lucky skinny b*tch!

If she's only as pregnant as me (which she reportedly is), you can't see a bump unless the clothing is very snug. Granted, I weigh a lot more than Nicole, but still. The bump itself can easily be hidden with a loose dress and I don't look pregnant at all. And I'm big for my gestation time.

I'm still not sure I believe it, but I think she's having a lot of fun with the speculation.

4 days, huh? Paris can't be too thrilled about that news. The thrisd picture is deceiving since there is a little puffiness in the way the dress falls. I guess we'll have to wait for the Diane Sawyer interview...

She's not getting special treatment. If she was getting special treatment she would have been given house arrest or a conditional sentence.

Unlike Paris, Nicole didn't violate her parole, so she wouldn't have gotten tons of time.

I know people who have been convicted of a DUI 2 and 3 times, and they didn't get much more time that Nicole.

In the United States, versus here in Canada, judges are elected. They want to appease the public and by going soft on celebrities, they would anger the public. So why would they go soft on celebrities?

as much as i enjoy nicole richie, it infuriates me that celebrities get treated differently by the "judicial system" especially for crimes that could create so much havoc & destruction as drunk driving. its unfortunate that celebs keep getting off with light sentences & therefore never really learn how dangerous their behavior is not just for themselves but for anyone around them.

jmast, we totally feel the same way about driving drunk. the sentence should be way more if you're putting other people in danger!

i hope to god she's not preggers... we certainly don't need her raising a child.

District attorneys and judges like it when people plea. It saves the state a lot of time and money. Paris should have taken a plea too if she wanted a good deal!

Let me tell you a story: In December 2002 my family was rear ended right in front og the police station. While my dad was filing reports with the other driver my mom and sister were in a waiting area reading the newspaper and on the front page was a story about a crash in which a car had been in the wrong lane, slammed into a bus and the bus plunged over the flyover leading into our city killing 29 people and injuring over 50 others. The bus had people in my town who were coming home from a shopping trip. And my mom and sister were talking about how dumb the driver was when a man sitting next to them turned to them and said he was the one who had KILLED those 29 people , he was waiting to be taken to a cell. He was drunk and he was high on drugs and he wished he could go back and reverse everything. My mom and sister were just shocked but later on that week he killed himself. Now imagine if Nicole had caused that. I feel that these sentences don't teach these starlets anything!

ummm, for real, why are you all acting so surprised at this sentence? did you really think the judicial system was completely fair?

look at some stats on how much poor people get sentenced to jail and the high recidivism rates they face as opposed to the slap on the wrists that celebrities and other wealthier people get. of course it's not fair but please don't act all shocked that this happened!

justice is not blind to wealth!

so driving against the traffic flow is not really that bad huh? even when your heading towards the traffic in your most unstable state of mind, it's still going to be 4 days.. wow, that's pretty swift and easy...

I don't think drunk driving sentences are fair for anyone, celebrity or otherwise - they should carry a MUCH higher number of days in jail.

She received the full minimum sentence. She was given credit for the time she already had spent in jail. It's a very common occurance.

Nicole's case is alot different than say Paris' or what Lindsay's will be. First, Nicole admitted to the cops that she had taken vicodin & smoked some pot. Secondly, she didn't try and lie about it in the public. Thirdly, she actually pled guilty. She's been cooperative the entire time and she poses not real threat to society, so why shouldn't she have been given the minimum sentence?

We don't know what was going on behind the scenes. Prosecutors could have offered her a deal, or Nicole's lawyers knew the judge, and what he was like, and told her what her best bet was.

It's not like she was given house arrest, or was to serve her time only on weekends, which does happen in these sorts of cases. She is going to jail, even if it's 4 days, is rough. She knows she screwed up and she is mature enough to deal with it befor it costs YOU the tax payers any more money. Trials are expensive and by avoiding trial, it is saving you money.

i think I'd much rather have my tax money wasted on putting someone who's a danger to society behind bars. I HATE DRUNK DRIVES!! Man car accidents are awful, awful, awful. I was in one the only injured, my face cut up because the window shattered onto my face courtesy of a drunk driver.
