A Celebration of Princess Diana

Thanks to Princes William & Harry, yesterday's tribute to their mother, Concert for Diana, was a beautiful and memorable celebration of all that she loved. At the event, Princess Diana's (as well as a few of her sons') favorite singers/dancers/actors/comedians all graced the stage to honor her memory. Unfortunately I missed the live broadcast of the full 6 hour show and only caught the NBC special, but it looks like the special event went off without a hitch. Diana's good friend, Elton John, opened and closed the show, but in the middle some of today's biggest pop stars took the stage. From Fergie to Pharrell, Rod to Duran Duran, the concert ran the gamut of pop music.

The event benefited a number of charities, which is fabulous, but for those of you who still dream of marrying one of the princes, Harry's girlfriend Chelsey was there, along with Will's maybe-reunited ex, Kate Middleton, but she sat a few rows back. Of the performances I caught (unforch, NBC didn't show Beckham's cameo in the special -- booo city), only Diddy seemed a little out of sorts on stage, "Make some noise if you miss Diana!!" Uh, right.

To see a ton more pics, including Dennis Hopper, Kanye, Keifer, Lily Allen, Rod Stewart, Simon Cowell and a whole lot more, just read more

They should make this an annual thing. They would raise so so much money. I'd schedule a vacay to London if I could go. The only other place to see so many performers is the Live 8 in the UK and a few other places.

"Make some noise if you miss Diana!!" Uh, right.

    Classic.

At any rate, I thought it was thoughtful, and there is no doubt that Diana would be proud.

I wonder what music Di would have liked if she were alive today. Her sons added people they liked, which is cool, but I'm inclined to think she might have hung out with P Diddy, but it doesn't seem like the kind of music she would have listened to.

Anyone remember several years ago when Wills used to have a crush on Britney Spears and exchanged email with her??

Ugh, Diddy... he's such an ass.

I was pretty surprised top hear that Fergie played at this considering she'd had a previous commitment supporting Justin Timberlake in a very heavily advertised double bill concert in Dublin. Nice of her to bail on that so she could take part in a more prestigious, high profile event. Her no doubt very disappointed fans got to see 50 Cent instead. Great!

    R.I.P. Diana.
I like the idea of the tribute, but all in all it must be said:
    Diddy sucks.

Aside from P. sh*tty, it looks like the concert was an overall success! Congrats to the Princes. Glad they could pull it off! I'm betting they'll find different, yet creative way to pay tribute to their beautiful mother and, again, raise a ton of money for charity!

Why doesn't Diddy just go away. He is always hanging around sucking up. He is worse than Lopez. He is over - no one cares. Get over it.

I watched the whole thing. Diddy didn't belong and he really doesn't sing, just talks. It was a moving tribute to her and very well done. And Harry is hotter than Will now! WOW.

i thought diddy's performance was amazing, he didn't just sing - he actually paid tribute with a very fitting song. if you know anything about him and why he wrote that song, you wouldn't cut him down. he belonged there and really added a lot to the show.

I watched most of the show live and I have to say that for the most part, I quite enjoyed it. Got to hear some music that I may not have oridnarily taken the time to take a listen to.

While I am not a fan of Diddy, I think he did an okay job, in spite of the aforementioned "Make some noise remark." I did scratch my head on that one.

    Kanye's shades were cool

The home movies at the end were a real tearjerker.

And not a spot of rain - in fact it was sunny.
Overall a fitting tribute to their mother. She would be proud.

Oh yeah - another touching moment was in between the sets -they showed clips of ordinary people whose lives were touched my Diana - whether it be during a photo op at one of the charities she visited, etc. It was remarkable how many lives she affected in a positive way.

im still on like a high from it, the princes were so fantastic and the concert was as perfect as it possibly could b for princess diana, it was sunny in london and apparently no where elese, it was pretty strange coz its been really raining and cloudy for weeks and its not so gr8 today either, but yesterday was really sunny. i hope people will let the princess be peaceful now coz how hard must it be for the princes, i think theyve handled it so gr8

I thought Fergie blew her performance of Glamorous. She lip synced the chorus (it was clearly pre-recorded) and tried to sing the rest of the song on her own but the microphone was set to ultra low so you couldn't hear her 'sing' the non-chorus parts of the song. When she finishsed her performance, the crowd's applause was tenative.

Nelly Furtado, on the other hand sang all of her songs and the crowd was on their feet. You could tell the crowd was into her performance because you could hear her loud and clear from beginning to end and she sounded great!

I must say I missed the live show & am sad about that..the NBC special was just a teaser.

first off i gotta say hello when did harry become suddenly hot..well at least to me...i wanna go pay him a visit..william is cute too.. damn..Diana would be so proud of both of them

I agree with hills & hudginstwin - I liked the Diddy performance. He picked an appropriate song (which he composed for rapper Notorious B.I.G.) & I too got goosebumpy. Yea, Diddy's over the top..but he brought his flavor to the scene..good for him!!

RIP Diana - you really were the People's Princess Sad

These boys obviously loved their mom very much!! Too bad some of the performances were in a word "ridiculous". Most showed respect and dignity for the venue. Kudos to the princes for only selling a program of the events and forbidding the sale of other useless memorabilia. I, for the most part, enjoyed the concert.....especially Elton John. Is it just me or has he morphed into "Auntie" Elton??? He looked like the princes' Auntie on stage!!! Don't get me wrong, I loved it!!!Hahaha!
