Evernote (free) introduced lots of new features for its iOS 8 update. Premium users can use their fingerprint to protect their Evernote notes via Touch ID. There is now an Evernote extension, so when you're surfing the web in Safari and tap the Share button, an Evernote icon will pop up so you can save content right away. You can also add an Evernote Quick Note bar to your Notification Center, so you can quickly access new note creation and more.

NYT Now (free) is an official app from The New York Times with news stories tailored for mobile (they're shorter and easier to digest). It's free to download and comes at a special price ($8 per month, while normal NYT app subscription is $3.75 per week). It works with iOS 8's Handoff, which will let you pick up on your phone from where you left off in your desktop or visa versa (will work when OS X Yosemite launches officially).
