Tom Cruise Has Big Smiles For Amsterdam

Tom Cruise has been having some trouble trying to shoot his upcoming movie Valkyrie in Germany, but it looks like he was warmly welcomed in the Netherlands to promote Lions for Lambs yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately for us all, Katie and adorable precious Suri weren't by his side, but I will concede that Tom's been looking better these days. A little more like his Risky Business days? Or am I still jumping the gun?

seriously what's with the clogs!!! I'm dutch and it annoys me that everyone sees us as the land of tulips, clogs and drugs!!! But it's better than Bruce Willis who thought Amsterdam was a country!

    fashionmimi,

We're Americans. Generally speaking, we are quite proud of our ignorance, which we combine with complete arrogance (See: Stephen Colbert's brilliant satire). It's part of our anti-intellectual charm.

NOBODY PUT TOM IN THE CORNER!

Germany never ban Tom, as they said:

"News reports earlier this week had started officials would ban “Valkyrie” from shooting at German military sites because of star Cruise’s belief in Scientology.

The ministry now says that, while it hasn’t received an official request from “Valkyrie” producers United Artists to shoot in the country, it would “look agreeably” upon any such application.

The film, slated for a 2008 release, tells the true story of Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg (Cruise), the leader of a failed German military plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler in 1944. The film’s title comes from Operation Valkyrie, the plot’s code name.

He's just the most beautiful man in the world.
Put him near Clooney, and Clooney is a grandpa; Put Pitt near him, Pitt look like a botoxed version of Michelle Pfeiffer and Hanson brothers Smiling

fashionmimi: SBS gave him a pair. They're so annoying... I'm from The Netherlands too and I never saw (other than the plastic ones in the tourist shops in Amsterdam) let alone wore a pair of those in my life. And I'm not planning to, either.

O god, he's HERE!? The horror!

I agree with Fashionmimi. I'm from the Netherlands as well (Amsterdam), and we're really not all about clogs and tulips and the red light district.

@ fashionmimi: it's the same in Germany. Just replace the clogs with dirndls and lederhosen. *rolls eyes*

And officially Germany hasn't banned Cruise. They haven't even gotten a request for a filming permission yet. Though, personally, I could live without Tom Cruise shooting that movie here in Germany. I'm not even excited about the movie. I just can't see that little man portraying Stauffenberg. Kretschmann would have been the better choice. *nods*

@fashionmimi & tyffi, I think it's the same everywhere, I'm Irish and so of course I don't even need to tell you that when I got up this morning I had to shoo about 20 leprechauns out of my front garden on my way to the pub for my morning guinness

Anyways, Molly, he will never get back to the Risky Business days! An essential part of his cuteness back then was that he wasn't hauling his mega-star ego around with him and we didn't know yet that he was actually stark raving bonkers. You gotta love Risky Business though, Lana is my all time favourite fashion muse!

No Molly, he's not back to Risky Business hotness. But, I do agree that he's looking a little more manjoyable lately. Maybe it's the fact that he basically quit spewing off weird things to the media? When people stop talking crazy I think their hotness factor starts increasing automatically.

I think Germany is correct in not wanting Tom Cruise on their soil. It's common knowledge that he travels with a pack of Scientologists and that the cult basically sets up what amounts to "sales booths" where he works and they try to convert anybody who will listen. He's the poster child for wackos.

He's looking better, but Maverick he is not. Those were the days...(not that we should expect him to look like he did 20 years ago)

I truly don't think I'll ever be a huge Tom fan again.

    Melly80,

Thank you. Ultra-nationalism and blind loyalty to Bushie is just so en vogue in America, reality be damned. To this day, 41% of Americans still believe Saddam Hussein was responsible for 9/11 (See: Pew Center). Next stop: Iran! Don't any of you pansy-ass countries give us any lip either, or we'll nuke you 'till you glow!

Janeiro, if we promise to let the US military keep using a civilian airport in Ireland for stopovers and refueling even though the majority of the public think that that compromises our policy of neutrality do you promise not to put us on the axis of evil?? Pretty please??? It'll be a special agreement between old friends, wink wink... don't nuke us!!!

Mark Walbrink, Matt Dameon, and so many other hot YOUNG stars, time for the old men to take a rest - Tom Cruise, George Clooney, Brad Pitt. Loved Shooter!!!, Looking forward to seeing Bourne Ultimatum. The old guys are okay, but becoming long in the tooth, give us some real action heros

Love Tom Cruise, love his movies and I cannot wait for Lions for Lambs. The Germans just wanted to be talked about. I don't see how you deny some one permission he has not asked you for. He is one great actor.
