Drew Doesn't Wanna Be Sedated

Drew looks lovely as she graces the pages of the October UK edition of Elle magazine. The girl who was drinking and using drugs at a very young age reveals she would never use anti-depressants, even though she gets panic attacks. She is totally terrified they will change her cute personality. Here's more:

"Every single medical expert says (panic attacks) are not real. So you're like, 'But how come when my throat is closing up, I'm blind with dizziness, I can't catch my breath, and I am hot and faint and want to rip my skin off and am convinced I'm going to die, that's so real to me?' I had some specialist recommend a daily drug, but I don't want to do it because I don't want to suppress my emotions. I would never take a pill.

Drew did say that pills worked for her father so she sees how they can work but she just isn't interested. This little girl lost seems to have grown up nicely but her panic attacks also sound like freaky flashbacks - scary. To see more beautiful pics from Elle, just read more

MY doctor said panic attacks are absolutely real. It's a physiological flight or fight response.

She's probably hesitant to take them due to her past drug use as well. Has anyone seen "My Date With Drew"?

she is so normal yet so gorgeous at the same time... I am still astounded by how she has completely transformed her life since she was a child-actress.

    I heart her! Smiling
And depression is a disease, you have to take some medicine.

Thats awesome that even though she won't take meds, she's not blasting those who do (a la Tiny Tom).

Her paniac attacks seem so familiar! Idk I just love it when u learn more about celebs and u can relate more and more with them. I have ptsd and shes so right, and I totally agree with her Id rather learn to deal with it on my own then take something thats gonna change me or possible addict me like a lot of anxiety meds (they are highly addictive some at least)

love her. I understand where she's coming from...and, panic disorder and depression are 2 totally different things. I'm not sure what medication they prescribe for panic disorders, but I'm pretty sure they are not anti-depressants

i wonder if these comments were taken a little out of context, because they don't make a lot of sense... "doctors say that panic attacks aren't real... but one wanted to prescribe me some meds to stop them"... sounds a little off to me.

    but the pics are great!

Find, those would be the drs that dont really care and will give there patients anything to just shut them up, its how prescription drug addicts are made.
Merry they are def not like anti dep. They mellow u out and can be addictive. Xanax is a common, well not so common any longer bc of the addiction factor but, anxiety paniac med.

I know people who take low doses of Valium (or some derivative) for panic attack daily as kind of a preventative &/or they take them when they feel one coming on. Panic attacks suck

They are real. They suck. Usually from post traumatic stress syn. After my mom almost died I started having them. You deal with it on a daily basis. If you are end up NOT abusing substances you are lucky. Good for her. I deal with them the same way. Sometimes those drugs turn people into robots.
Not saying everybody and not pulling a Tom here. Just sometimes....

I've never heard that panic attacks aren't "real". Maybe they aren't based on something that's really happening, but they are real.

Panic attacks are real and at the same time not. I use to get them a lot and I took medicine for them. While what your feeling is real, the idea that you cant breathe and feeling like your "dying" isnt exactly real, it's all pretty much in your head but it's still hard to realize this and stop the panic attack.

omg...panic attacks are exactly just like she described them.I can so relate to this as I have panic disorder myself and I refused too to take anti-depressants.It is harder at first but eventually it pays off.But the fear of an upcoming panic attack is the worst. And the depression that comes after...horrible.I wish there was an easier way to cure this completely!Anyway she looks cute here.

my great freind gets panic attacks all the time. It is called panic disorder ,I think.

I have a lot of experience with anti depressants , I have 2 siblings that have taken them for years, I think meds work for some people, the problem is some people get so used to being depressed thaat they actually stop taking the meds and become worse then before. Both my sisters are still nuts, just one is doing better now and one is worse.

wow those Barrymores have a history of addiction and mental issues. Its good that she doesn't want to take a pill as long as it healthy for her to do so.

Panick Attacks are real and very serious. They feel as if one is about to die. I started having them after struggling with post-partum depression. I was prescribed some antidepressant to deal with the pd and slowly weaned off them on my own. The PD was gone within 9 months, panick attacks still show up once in a while. Drew is great for openly talking about it in a positive and neutral way. Unlike Tom Cruise who tried to "lecture" Brooke Shields about antidepressant.

Taking pills for depression etc. is not necessarily necessary, but it can only be understood case by case, person by person.... it's certainly not benefitial to start espousing against medical help, when a lot of people suffer and are insecure or embarrased with their depression

I get physical anxiety attacks - or I did, rather. I would get an elevated heart rate and shallow breathing. There was no psychological cause for mine, though, it was purely physical. I stopped smoking and cut way back on the caffeine and they went away, along with most of my migraine headache symptoms.

Well, I don't know who these so-called medical experts are that she's seeing but they're full of it. I've had panic attacks for around two decades, at my worst I could have four in a single day (though my own case was unusually severe). I wrote a blog on here about my multiple anxiety-related disorders. I pop a pill every day to keep the attacks at bay, and not at all ashamed to admit it. I can go several months without an attack, these days. Drew should seek out doctors who know what the hell they're talking about, because the ones she's visited are feeding her lies. That's unfortunate.

That's ironic that you Pop posted this, I just read Little Girl Lost for the first time over Labor Day weekend at the beach. What an incredible story! I had to keep reminding myself that she was only 12 and 13 sometimes.
