Was Paris Let Off Too Easy?

Dave got people chuckling last night with his Top 10 Signs Paris Isn't Doing Well in Prison, but many don't think it's a laughing matter, especially since she was released so early. Evidently they let her go on account of her fragile mental state but others think she was given preferential treatment. What do you think -- was Paris let off easy?

UPDATE - on behalf of Paris, her attorney has issued the following statement: "I want to thank the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and staff of the Century Regional Detention Center for treating me fairly and professionally. I am going to serve the remaining 40 days of my sentence. I have learned a great deal from this ordeal and hope that others have learned from my mistakes."

Of course she was let off too easily. There's no way someone without her money would've gotten the same treatment.

She'll violate her house arrest and be let off the hook for that, too.

Unbelievable!! Us regular people would have to do the time. she gets off cause of her "mental state" which means her crying and complaing that she gets only 3 blankets and is so cold in her cell. Makes me hate her even more.

As if other people in the WORLD don't suffer mental anguish when they are sent to jail for MUCH, MUCH longer!! To use her mental state as an excuse is just that...AN EXCUSE!!!! IT'S A LOAD OF CRAP!!!

Fragile mental state my ass... show me a person who doesn't freak out at being incarcerated!!! It's meant to freak you out, that's why it's meant to be a deterrent to breaking the law, there'd be something wrong with you if the thought of going to prison DIDN"T freak you out. Now show me a person who's been let out of prison after three days because of their so-called "fragile mental state"... as I suspected you're showing me Paris Hilton, because as I suspected she's probably the only person. But of course that's not special treatment at all...

She is going to have people waiting on her and pampering her the ENTIRE time she's home. I WISH I could stay home for 40 days under those conditions. It is like a vacation. What a wimp. Also, if it were a regular person crying and carrying on in their cell, they would have told them to shut up and deal with it - not let them leave?! Seriously!

I got my 17 day sentence "reduced" to 30 days house arrest after spending 4 days in jail. The mental anguish cop out can work for normal people too...sometimes. Paris is still a spoiled b*tch though.

I agree with Kiki... getting scared straight is half the point of incarcerating people! People are going to mock her even MORE now that she whined her way out of jail. She may have actually gained an ounce of respect if she served her sentence. Bad PR move there Paris!

This whole escapade was such a c*ck tease. I have bene waiting for her to go to jail for weeks . . . and she is out in 3 days? Throw her back in the clink. I hope this is all a ruse to catch her violating the terms of her house arrest and put her away for some real time.

Let's see... on-line shopping, phone calls, emailing, lounging by the pool, in-house massages, personal chef, tanning, naps, visits from family and friends etc... sounds rough.

I couldn't believe it! It's more like she got grounded for three days instead of serving any jail time. Some people are just gosh darn lucky.

Why does everyone care so much? She's harmless. There are other things to get angry about.

If only we could all cry crazy in jail and get home detention. You know, if any other "jo blow" did that they'd wind up in LA County Hospital! That's SO not hot!

It's rediculous. She's that weak she can't handle three days in a facility, when she's already being kept away from the majority of the other inmates? I can just imagine what her house is like... how is that any punishment, at all???

She's not harmless. She was driving drunk. Do you know how many people have been killed by drunk drivers? I know a girl who just got 8 years in prison for killing a guy while she was driving drunk. It's not harmless, at all. It's dangerous.

    Alexlove:

I don't think it's that everyone "cares"...but this indeed is a great injustice and it makes the justice system seem like a joke. To "regular" Americans, this is nothing more than a celebrity once again getting off easy. Hilton clearly isn't all that "harmless", as she was caught driving under the influence, and because she made herself into a public figure, there are sadly people out there that idolize her. She is far from harmless.

I interned at a public defense office and you would not believe the horrible and stupid things that the clients did and usually got away with. None of the clients that I worked with got sentenced for anything. A couple people did worse things than Paris that involved physically dragging people down the street in a car and got off w/out punishment. So...I don't know if she was given preferntial treatment or not.

Her DUI arrest was questionable as well. There is so much legal debate over breath tests, and often times the breath test doesn't stand in court, especially if the result was close to the minimum. Her prison diaries would've been a fun read tho!

Yes, she was let off easy. Too easy. Ridiculously easy. I don't think I've been this ashamed of our justice system since the OJ case. It's a sham, a mockery, and I'm really angry...probably more than I should be, lol. Paris may be "harmless" ( if you consider drunk driving "harmless" ) but the situation isn't harmless. This is proof that rich people can get away with breaking the law. And that's just not right.

If I lived in a huge mansion with every available amenity... I'd probably be willing to swap a reduced sentence in jail for an extended sentence at home.

    Just sayin.
