Jessica Alba Wants You to Declare Yourself

Jessica Alba had tears in her eyes and tape over her mouth as the dramatic poster child for Declare Yourself. Jessica's trying to encourage young people to speak up by registering to vote. So far she's been actively involved in the Presidential Election, endorsing Obama and heading to the DNC and about this ad campaign she said,

"I really don’t see the point in not registering to vote. We sign up for MySpace pages and Facebook pages, and download music off the internet. The least people can do is register to vote online, actually making a difference in their world, not just making their lives a little bit cooler. It makes more sense to spend your time making a change in society—and it actually doesn’t take that much time! It takes more time to make a music playlist than it does to register to vote."

So what do you think of Jess's ad — totally effective or a little too much?

I like it, it's a little dramatic but I think it could be effective. I keep trying to encourage my friends to register to vote (the ones who haven't already), but some of them are just too damn lazy. I know I would probably put off registering for awhile if I didn't do it right away, so I registered as soon as I received that slip in the mail after I turned 18.

1.) that's so not her style, dramatic like that- she's never been edgy and should never try it again. 2.) her rant is so eloquent- NOT, she talks like a valley girl or like she's reading off a script at a beauty pageant. 3.) she'll always be jessica 'don't me latina' alba to me, which sabotages everything she tries to do 'for the greater good' or what she calls 'society'.

I find it interesting that more and more celebrities are actively thinking about politics, by not only participating in voter registration campaigns like Jess in this campaign or the long time love of Rock the Vote. Though the stars of Hollywood often receive lots of press about partying and drama, I am glad to see many of them are starting to inspire others to become more active in taking possession of the future of this country. I hope more people will register to vote and make themselves heard. Though the image is a little over the top, it's certainly memorable and it does get the point across.

When it comes to elections, if one does nothing to help make the changes, they can't sit back an complain when nothing does (or it doesn't go their way). The key is not only voting, but making informed decisions.

    it is effective in ways
but also a little too much
i wouldn't mind being able to vote, it'll be good because we are the next generation and i think we should have a say on what we want instead of making trouble on the streets. some adults don't know how we think and yadda yadda, it'll be nice to put our point across

i do think it's a little dramatic but it definitely makes a statement. i'm trying so hard to get all my friends to vote for this upcoming election... some are very apathetic which saddens me. i want them to care about what happens to our country, stand up for what they believe in, and know that they can make a difference.

i know a lot of celebrities get criticized for participating in politics... i think it's great that they're trying to get people to vote but i don't think they should affect the way people vote. i mean, you shouldn't vote for a politician because a celebrity tells you to, but you shouldn't vote for someone else just because a celebrity endorses a certain person.

but i believe that people are intelligent enough to vote for whomever they choose once they learn about their policies

A bit over the top but if it encourages young America to vote then so be it. Still don't like her.

i'm all for celebs trying to use their influence to get people to register to vote - but i still find jessica's involvement to be a bit baffling. i don't see her as the type to really make a lot of people change their mindset - but i guess declare yourself feels otherwise. i have to admit that i did visit the site - but not because of her activity on the campaign - but more so because of 'so you think you can dance'

This is an ad for Postpartum Depression, right?

I'm glad she's taking a political stance, but this is really just another ploy to make her boring a$$ seem important.

So obviously they removed the tape because she opened her mouth again. Wish the tape would have been super glued to her mouth.

Does anyone else think it is odd that the tag is "Only you can silence yourself" when it obviously looks like someone else has silenced her in the picture by wrapping her up in tape? She wouldn't have been able to do that to herself Smiling

I don't think it's over the top at all! What is so hard to believe is the percentage of 18yr. old's and up that just flat out refuse to register! Really!?? It takes a real moron not to want anything to do with who is leading what in this Country; and the more disgusting thing about that is they are usually the ones' to complain about our economy or anything in America.

I love her and I love this add. She is absolutely right about the myspace and facebook. we need to stand up for a change and register to vote and actually go out and vote.

I like it because it is getting the point across that everyone needs to register and go out and vote for a change.

The only purpose I see in getting people to vote is to get society loafers to take part in something. I only vote if there is someone worth voting for. If it's the lesser of two evils then I'm not voting for either one. *On a side note: I'm reading the comments and wondering who she hit with her car while driving under the influence, who's man she stole, what awful cds/movies did she consistently(oh that Jessica Simpson) put out or some other crime against society at large did she commit...in other words, what has she done besides be pretty and content?

I agree with Jessica. The worst is if the younger generations wanting to be compensated for voting, like a free iPod or something.

I kinda like it! But it's a little OTT, I mean without knowing what it was for, I would have thought it was about child abuse or something like that...

personally, I do not think people should vote just because. You should vote if you honestly believe in the candidate you are voting for. I think people need to know what the candidate is about and what they propose. Honestly, I did not vote in my first eligable election because I really knew nothing about politics. 13 years later, I think I am more educated and I can vote for the person I feel understands the changes that need to be made.

Secondly, Jessica Alba is like vanilla ice cream, she is so bland and I think they could of used a better spokesperson.

This would probably make more of an impact if it was coming from someone I believed. I don't buy that she tied herself up to silence herself, first off. Secondly, I don't believe that she means it. Her eyes say nothing (as usual).

Go figure. I like the message: Only you can silence yourself. That's great, but it should have been executed better. Ah, well...............

I'm an informed citizen of the US, one who doesn't need nor take advice from "celebrities." If you watch the news and most of the debates, you can make your mind up about whom you want to vote for. These type of endorsements only make young, undecided voters more vulnerable, and it's sad.

AMEN LEXI! My sentiments EXACTLY. I know I sound like a broken record, but CELEBRITIES SHOULD KEEP THEIR NOSES OUT OF POLITICS.
