well.. as horrible as it is to say, i dont think that a sex addiction comes on its own, i think its paired with another addiction.... hopes and thoughts to Tea and the kids

I wish him well and his family but I know many actors that some worship here thinking they are the ideal hot guy and can do no wrong but they have sex addictions,assault-anger management,drugs and alcohol abuse but privacy acts I know I seal my cyberlips. That's why I laugh when some make fun of Tom Cruise when some dont know he is actually among the few that fans ought to be proud of because he has none of the baggages and religion and beliefs or politics has nothing to do with making a person bad. Some and even the media only know half of it and with Britney Spears medical laws broken by many staffers so many rehab centers and hospitals in California and NY are really being guarded.

OH MY GOD. I am in complete shock. I absolutely love him and watched The X-Files religiously when it was on t.v. I hope his recovery goes smoothly, and that he will be able to get the help that he needs.

Can't say I'm surprised, but this is disappointing. Does anyone else remember that blind item on Perez Hilton from awhile ago that insinuated that David Duchovny was having an affair with his tennis instructor? I don't always believe what Perez says, but I think that David & Tea's marriage have been rocky for awhile and they have probably been trying to work on it for the kids' sake. But this is pure speculation, really. I hope he solves his issues and that his kids won't be affected.

Not a big surprise, except for the announcing it publicly. Usually that is something you do to get ahead of a scandal that's about to break. But from Red Shoes Diary and Full Frontal to Californication, quite a bit of his work has revolved around sexual situations.

I am not sure I actually believe sex addiction. However I am sure its possible. So many things are. I pray for David and his family. I hope they pull through this together even when there will be some major dark days. I hope they see everything through for their children sake and marriage. I only send my best and I pray they make it.

I agree with Great Sommelier, it's a Hollywood excuse for bad behaviour. In real life the rest of us would have to acknowledge our bad behaviour but these guys get to go "Oh my God, it's not my fault, i'm a sex addict". Whatever I feel sorry for his wife.

I have a cousin who deals with this and it's not a pretty addiction, I even feel uncomfortable around him and he's my cousin!!! He's been in therapy for years and he can't seem to get ahead of it and it doesn't help that in our society there are so many ways for them to feed their addiction.

The National Council on Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity has defined sexual addiction as “engaging in persistent and escalating patterns of sexual behavior acted out despite increasing negative consequences to self and others.” In other words, a sex addict will continue to engage in certain sexual behaviors despite facing potential health risks, financial problems, shattered relationships or even arrest.

Good luck to David but it's probably going to be a long haul. I feel so badly for his wife, his addiction has nothing to do with what she is or isn't doing.

The actual addiction to sex is NOTHING what you people are talking about. It's an actual addition like someone would be addicted to heroin or whatever. They can't live without it and it's not something that is done once a week..it's most of the time several times a day and usually the partner can't keep up and they start seeking it from other ways.

Does anyone remember that lady that was addicted to sex, so much so her husband told her to go find it someone where else because he just couldn't keep up. He said he almost wanted to run and hide because she wanted it all day long, the only time she took breaks on the weekends was to sleep, eat, and go to the bathroom.

It's all they think about and will master-bate over and over again if their needs are not met by their partner and they don't want to cheat. Typically the partner will catch the person master-bating all the time and then they start sneaking off just to do it. I knew a guy that would sneak off to the Kinko's parking lot just to do that..his wife thought he was making copies for work!

That's when it becomes a problem and they need help.
That is called an addiction...it's not a normal sexual appetite like we know.

Love David, always have. I don't find this one surprising though. At least he is getting some help. Maybe Tea and his marriage will survive as Eric Benet and Halle Berry didn't. I hope Tea sticks by him. I just wonder if he actually had an affair or affairs due to his addiction. I hope not but you just never know I guess. Good luck to them.

Like several have said, sex addiction is very serious. It's not the "Oh my gosh I'm horny and need some sex!" that many people say when they haven't been laid in a while. It often causes so much disruption in one's life that you can't function as a "normal" person. I'm sure it's hard to imagine for some but it really shouldn't be. Sex is EXTREMELY powerful although we seem to blow it off a lot. How else can you explain all of the politicians taking part is all of these seedy extra-marital affairs? I'm not saying they are all sex addicts, but just look at the power of sex. These are men who KNOW if they are caught it can totally ruin all they've worked for their entire lives, and yet they still go through with it.

And it doesn't help that we live in such a puritanical society where god forbid we teach comprehensive sexual education in our schools. No, no, it's much better to act like it's dirty and we should never tell kids about condoms because they should all get married and have all the kids in the world. Ok, stepping off the soap box now...

Sex Addiction is real, I've seen it in myself, although not to any extremes. It was more mental for me. I've been over it a few years, it sucks.

Before he was even dating Tea I saw him on tv in an interview saying he didn't believe in monogamy and he could never be with one person. That to me is a red flag that maybe that's somebody I shouldn't marry! BTW Eva Longoria also made the same statement after her first marriage ended but she phrased it "I don't think I am meant to be with one person".

i think that it's got to be heard on a family to have that be the cause of going to rehab. i wonder what that means...if t's a porn thing or what. i'm sure that he's faithful to tea - he would be stupid not to be but i guess i just don't know. maybe this is something for the show that they are playing up for his personal life? like a faux scandal?
