i always wondered why people would want to be surprised. i guess i can understand it a little - but it's not like you're not going to have to go out and buy EVERYTHING to suit the kid once they are here, so you might as well have some stuff already taken care of in advance.

Um, you can most definitely be prepared for your baby and not have gender appropriate clothing. Not EVERYTHING you get is gender specific. I know tons of people who've waited and were wholly prepared when their babies came. What do you think your parents did?

My parents put me in dresses even though I was a boy- they prepared for a girl so I got screwed.
