Katherine Heigl Takes on Polygamy Story, No Emmy

Katherine Heigl flashed a smile on her way into the wrap party for The Ugly Truth in LA last night. While that movie doesn't sound like much of a departure for Katherine, who is a romantic comedy veteran at this point, her next project is a weighty one. The actress will star in and produce the adaptation of Carolyn Jessop's memoir Escape. Jessop's story and testimony played a big part in the recent polygamist sect scandal and the book is about her time on Warren Jeffs' compound. It's a far cry from what we've seen from Katherine so far, but considering she was raised Mormon the topic must hit close to home. Meanwhile, Heigl doesn't want acclaim for this season of Grey's Anatomy — she officially pulled her name out of the running for an Emmy.

I love that dress and she looks good, but I can't stand watching her on Grey's anymore let alone on the big screen. Well, her new project does sound interesting- especially since she was raised Mormon.

I find it classy that she took herself out of the race because, honestly, her character was not that interesting this year and she did not really have any meaty storylines to work with. Its annoying when actors submit themselves year after year, even if they have sub-par talent.

She annoyed me nonstop on Greys, she shouldn't be considered for eye rolling and complaining.

California- criticizing the writers of a show that essentially made you is one of the rudest things I've heard. I am really not a fan of hers. It's a prime time soap opera, gah who does she think she is?

She should just stop talking....way to crap on the writers that have already earned you an Emmy....and on the show that put her on the map.

Just FYI, Warren Jeffs isn't mormon. And polygamy isn't practiced by mormons and hasn't been for a very very long time. (100 years ish) As someone else who was raised mormon but isn't really one anymore, I'm guessing it won't hit close to home, since they have nothing to do with that religion.

    Just saying.

    POP:

I have to point out that Warren Jeffs' religious sect was not Mormon; it was FLDS. This fringe group of extremists split from the Mormons in the 1930s BECAUSE they wanted polygamy and Mormons didn't. So yes, it is interesting that she's going to play that part given her background, but please don't make it sound like Mormons were involved with the practices of Jeffs' compound.

hmmm ... not too surprising a comment from her. it's a free country and folks can speak their minds. i tend not to warm to her as a "celebrity personality" but that is subjective.

blaming the writers is kinda lame unless you are seeking leverage (which does not sound too bright) or you are setting the stage for your television exit to pursue your "on fire" movie career. but i am not sure that would work because if you publicly bite the hand that feeds you, it could send a potentially bad message to the people who may work with you in the future.

it should be noted many shows and characters suffered greatly from the writers' strike.

I came here to say basically the same things as lizadilly and tagen22. FLDS does not mean mormon.

don't your "people" submit you for nomination for emmy's? seems like this came out a few years ago when the star of "everybody loves raymond" didn't get his stuff in on time and wasn't nominated but other actors from the show were. my point being; why did she submit her work in the first place? sounds like it was just to get press saying she took it out.

She must have "bite the hand that feeds you" syndrome or something because she is constantly putting down the roles that make her notable.

I appreciate the comments clearing up the difference between FLDS and Mormons, they are NOT one in the same. And, even though Katherine was raised as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon) she in no way practises her religion - far from it.

I love how she says that she doesn't feel like she really had a role that gave her the ability to do what others should be nominated for... aren't you supposed to do that for yourself?! Ok, we all really know it comes from the writers, but seriously?! Grow up lady. Five years ago you were digging around in Steven Segal's hand-me-downs.

Sorry to sound so b*tchy, but seriously?! The girl needs to get a grip. There was a writers strike and all of the series were cut short. Have some respect for your industry.

Hey guys, I know that Warren Jeffs sect isn't Mormon and that polygamy is NOT practiced in the Mormon faith, just pointing out that it may still hit close to home for Katherine or anyone who was raised in the Mormon church - especially considering the public's opinion and tendency to group them together.

" Five years ago you were digging around in Steven Segal's hand-me-downs" So true princis, she's really starting to act ungrateful now.
Esp since she was complaining about how unprofessional it was of the execs to tell everyone when there was problems with her salary negotiation. Now she's doing the same - anyway if her role was crap this year then she probably wouldn't have gotten the nomination , so why all the drama?

This is all just a part of her scheme to get herself fired or 'let go'. Isaiah should've stayed and she should have gone last season.

God, I dislike Katherine Hagl. She looks older because of the smoking and I'm glad she won't be nominated this year. The win was enough, last year.

She SHOULD have said that nothing OR that her performance didn't warrent an Emmy. I FINALLY see why so many of sugar posters are annoyed by her. She's so arrogant to blame the writers. What a b!tch!

She has caused an uproar for the comments about the writing material. Her comments are truly bold since the writing of her character is what made her into a beloved actress. For myself, I can't watch her on Grey's nor Ellen. I love the other characters! The writers can only do so much with a person whom can't play any other emotions or characteristics except a whiny, pretentious female (sounds like most of the character's she has portrayed).

snowbunny11 - I understand what you're saying, I'm not even a big Grey's Anatomy fan but it did seem rude of her to make those comments. But when I first read that quote that she said, I took it to mean that she didn't believe that she was worthy of getting an Emmy because she didn't really have to showcase any acting talent on Grey's this year, not that she was blaming the writers for not giving her enough juicy, dramatic storylines.

She can do drama good, as she does on Grey's. But, it seems like she's a natural in romantic comedies. It must be her thing. Even though I didn't really like her characters in recent movies, there's just something so lovable about her onscreen.

I can not stand this woman. And her comments about the Emmy just make me dislike her more. She's so arrogant. It was her acting that doesn't deserve an Emmy nomination, not the material. And yeah she was "nominated" but who says she was even really in the running to actually win? How arrogant of her to think that by pulling out she's giving someone else a chance to win...
